I say give this fucking idiot everything he wants and more, beginning with that court martial. He wants to be a martyr, then let him be one.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/04/01/terry-lakin-army-birther_n_521549.html

Lt. Col. Terry Lakin, an Army physician, has refused to obey any orders from his commanding officers -- including President Obama -- until Obama produces his birth certificate.

"Any reasonable person looking critically at the evidence currently in the public domain would have questions about President Obama's claim to be a natural born citizen," Lakin says in the below video released the right-wing American Patriot Foundation. "I will disobey my orders to deploy because I, and I believe all servicemen and women and the American people, deserve the truth about President Obama's constitutional eligibility to the office of the presidency and the commander in chief."

Lakin says this marks the first time during his 18 years in the Army that he has chosen to disobey "what I believe are illegal orders." Evidently he didn't feel the need to personally verify the citizenship of his three previous commanders-in-chief.

5. beginning with that court martial.
Edited on Thu Apr-01-10 11:31 AM by AlbertCat
I would begin by transferring him to the worst and most obscure place they can. No courtmartial... no martyrdom.... just paper pushing in cold harsh obscurity.

If he "won't deploy"...then collect his ass and drop him off into obscurity.

9. Has he been under a rock?
Exactly how many times does Obama need to produce his birth certificate? He would never have been allowed to run for the office of President of The United States if his paperwork wasn't in order to begin with. Does he seriously think that Dubya won either election? Heck he stole both of them.. once by chads in Florida where his brother was head honcho and once in Ohio by messing with the vote machines. Also the Bush family has ties in Ohio from long ago, check out their family history.

Personally I'd like to see him get a dishonorable discharge for going against his commanding officer. What exactly is he going to do when the paperwork is produced again? Will he then apologize to his president?
Bet not, he'll probably find another way to shirk his responsibility. Slacker!!

ambitions. Wonder who's backing his decision besides the TeaRabble. If he didn't have that Colonel after his name, he'd be in the block right now. I have known plenty of Republican people who served during WW2 who respected FDR as their CommanderIC and never would have dreamed of defying their leader. Disgusting that he would go against the oaths he swore to uphold. At any rate, I bet he is a lousy physician who could never have made it in private practice.

18. An Officer??????
Sorry. I have always come to this web site in the past to read the other side of the story. I am a liberal conservative ( figure it out yourselves what this means). You need both sides to reach a conclusion. However, this video really P****ed me off. For one thing, unless the oath has changed in the last couple of years, a soldier in the military has the first responsibility to support and defend the Constitution, second is to obey the the President i.e. The President elected by the people and then "lawful" orders of those appointed above me . If I was to meet this 'Person' I would probably sucker punch him.

27. Exactly. He's not disobeying the C in C - he is disobeying his direct superiors,
and only if his refusal is kicked upstairs will it EVER reach the C in C. His refusal to obey is of his commanding officer's order, and his own CO has authority to deal with it.

The weird right seems to think the C in C is some kind of super-general, but he really has little to do with strategy and nothing to do with tactics - what units are to be deployed is NOT in his purview. You'd think a soldier of 18 years would know that.

If it goes to court-martial, I guarantee the Pres will NOT be called to testify.

Anyone labeling themselves patriot and pulling a stunt like this is a traitor and should be tried and punished in accordance with the Uniform Code of Military Justice. He'd start licking the President's feet when they hand him the blindfold and cigarette.
Patriot is the Nazi code word for bigot.
Using Nazi is not over the line in discussing these scumbags. There's no nice way to say Nazi or scumbag. In fact, they sound perfect together.

Not an official copy, but the original. Am I correct in my guess that this is what the "birthers" are asking for? Otherwise, they would have been satisfied with the copies that have been supplied. Didn't Obama have to supply a copy of his birth certificate to get a drivers license? And his passport - before he was even a senator?

How many people could supply their original birth certificate? I could not. I know how to get copies, but the one signed in ink by the physician who delivered me? Could this guy supply that document?

38. Those "code words" are the glue that holds the Republican party together
It's pretty clear what's being said. But the GOP playbook includes three simple steps:

1). Speak in "code"

2). Wait for the backlash

3). Deny to media that you were saying what you were really saying in code, and say it again...immediately...in code.

If I've seen that played out once, I've seen it 1000 times.

49. Whenever I see a right-winger leading off with the phrases like "any reasonable person"-
I'm reminded of a paper I wrote while I was in college- The subject was the use of persuasive techniques in propaganda. The model I used in the paper was the Journal of Historical Review- a right-wing revisionist publication whose primary purpose is to deny the Holocaust. The first sentence on the first page of their website was as follows: "Within five minutes, any intelligent, open-minded person can be convinced that the Holocaust gassings of World War II are a profitable hoax."

Right-wingers seem to love leading off with phrases such as these- the implication being that if you don't agree with them you must not be reasonable/intelligent/open-minded.

Lieutenant Colonel seems to be the top rank someone can get and be a complete screwball like this. I don't know why this is. It is kind of like the military doesn't pay much attention until someone wants to be a Colonel. Then they look at him/her and say, "Oh no, not this nutcase".

You get screwups from Lt. Colonel's that you never get from higher ranked officers. Custer's Last Stand. Oliver North. I guess when the number of people you're over goes from hundreds to thousands, they give you a good, hard look.

Another crazy Lieutenant Colonel!

This would have been put to rest the day it appeared if the american people were informed of the law.

CITIZENSHIP IS NOT DECIDED BY A MAGIC PIECE OF PAPER OR A PLACE OF BIRTH!

It's decided by the LAW! So even if someone can't produce his/her papers, or was born in a different country, believe it or not, can be eligible for natural born status. The law governing Obama's eligibility in particular is http://www.uscis.gov/ilink/docView/SLB/HTML/SLB/0-0-0-1/0-0-0-29/0-0-0-9679.html">INA 301 G:
