Thai protesters vow not to compromise after 21 die in clashes

Anti-government protesters in Thailand swore today that they would never compromise with the Prime Minister, Abhisit Vejjajiva, the day after street battles left 21 people dead, including demonstrators, soldiers and a Japanese journalist.

At least 870 people were injured yesterday, when soldiers in armoured vehicles attempted to break up a gathering of tens of thousands of Red Shirts who are demanding that Mr Abhisit call elections immediately.

Sixteen protesters were killed, many of them shot in the head, as well as Hiro Muramoto, a Japanese cameraman with the Reuters news agency.

Four soldiers, including a colonel, died during the battles, and the demonstrators seized six armoured personnel carriers whose smashed frames lie abandoned close to the Democracy Monument.

"There is no more negotiation,” Jatuporn Prompan, a Red Shirt leader, told a crowd from a nearby stage, which was piled with automatic rifles, machine guns and ammunition belts seized from the soldiers, four of whom were briefly taken prisoner.

1. The Red Shirts are actually the ones firing into crowds. No one knows yet who shot these guys. The

police and military were using rubber bullets and water canons but the Red Shirts had machine guns and fired directly into the crowds. You need to read the Thai newspapers to find out what's really going on. Most of the foreign media have what's going on there wrong. The soldiers did eventually fire at protesters but only after they had been attacked repeatedly.

Funny how the MSM seems to want to paint this as a battle by a populist group against a dictatorial government but it is just not the case.

4. According to the eyewitness reports @ 1:00 & 1:40 it was a soldier who shot him

I've seen footage on TV of soldiers firing guns into the crowds. Haven't found that footage on YouTube yet but this witness filmed gunshots being fired into the crowd and it looks like the red shirts are just waving sticks: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ziV96OvIG4

6. All of the blood is on the hands of Taksin

The Army has for the last several weeks pulled back and avoided confrontations as mob rule has gradually taken over Bangkok.

They have occupied buildings, and private homes including Parliment.

Each move is made to esculate confrontation.

In the end the only hope that Taksin has of getting back his B 76,000,000,000 is to have a complete civil war and buy off somebody in the military.

The so called eye witnesses shown in the video are all die hard adherents and are as objective witnesses as Tea Party protesters are on the place of birth for President Obama.

What we are watching is what happens when a well funded Tea Party is organized and told to go for broke in 'taking our country back'.

Taksin initiated 'extra judicial' killings in Thailand that was estimated in the killing of 3,000 people.

Taksin's willingness to use murder to advance his goals is well documented and every Thai knows that he will not stop until violence is exploited as a tactic. Something the nation learned in horror when he had 78 Muslim protesters murdered:

5. Is the word 'protest' correct when the protestors are carrying guns. What's the term for a

serious step up from simple protest. I'll watch again, but I only saw sticks and sling shots and the damage from some kind of club that broke up the cars.

If they both have guns - what it this? An official revolumtion?

2. If it were our army the 'cameraman' would be an insurgent carrying an RPG.

For other armies, it is just another atrocity.

3. So sad in so many ways. One of the ways is the way the news is delivered. I felt sad because I

thought it was more professional and even handed than anything we hear from the seven Republican networks.
