This is Cal Cunningham's (NC-Sen) first television ad, highlighting a record of service for North Carolina and our nation. This is certainly a must see.

Cal was a state senator in the heart of rural North Carolina focused on education and job creation. He had a bright future ahead of him (was student body president at UNC, and graduated from UNC-Law and the London School of Economics). Then 9/11 happened.

Cal joined the Army Reserves, and was sent off to fight in a war that North Carolina's Senator Richard Burr voted for.

Cal was awarded the Bronze Star for his service in Iraq, and for cracking down on contractor crimes as a military lawyer.

Now he's back and running for U.S. Senate against the very guy who voted to send him to war.

This video shows footage of Cal flying from Baghdad to Al Najaf in March 2008.

Cal has been endorsed by Gen. Wes Clark, Council for a Livable World, the Teamsters, the North Carolina Association of Educators, and The Winston-Salem Journal.

Please consider contributing $5 to help put an Iraq War Vet in the Senate, and defeat Richard Burr:

He is running in the Democratic primary to face Senator Richard Burr in the fall. Burr is a do nothing senator who has been on the Hill since 1995. The reason you've never heard of him is that he has done almost nothing, especially for the people of North Carolina.

When Congress got word that the economy was collapsing, Burr called his wife and told her to take all of their money out of the ATM. Some leadership right there. He's known as "Bank Run Burr" down here.

3. Great Work
Cal is really reaching the public.

His message is clear -- he's focused on jobs and families. This is a brilliant first TV ad and, coupled with his online "Voices of NC" web ads, he's letting voters know that he understands the issues and will be listening to his constituents, not special intersts, when he gets to the U.S. Senate.

I cannot wait to vote for him!

Cunningham was awarded the Bronze Star for bringing to court the first military case against a contractor in over 30 years.

14. He spoke at our county's Democratic Convention on Saturday. He was waaay too slick
for my taste. Reminded me of another really polished, smooth-talking North Carolina politician I voted for a few years back.

Elaine Marshall was there too. She's got my vote.

16. That was a Blue Dog ad I think.
It reminds of the ads Blue Dogs Mark Warner and Jim Webb ran here in Virginia. They were for public education, public health care and an end to middle eastern wars. They now support charter schools, private health insurance and have committed themselves and our children's future to the dogs of war and profit. Maybe this guy is different, but if he's associated in anyway with the DLC, forget it.

17. Not DLC
He was the first candidate for Senate in the country to come out for filibuster reform.

The North Carolina Association of Educators have endorsed him, and the Teamsters.

And please don't equate Cal Cunningham with that other former Senator from NC, who ran for president a couple of years ago.

One chased ambulances for a living, and Cal started his days a volunteer court advocate for victims of domestic violence.

Thanks for the comments and discussion though everyone! :hi:

18. I know nothing about Cal's performance but I can sniff a natural born politician a mile away.
This guy is one. Just too perfect.

He had his delivery down to the "T". I found his little anecdote about pinning his medal and his campaign ribbon on his kids very tacky; although, I'm sure some folks loved that. Then he had to keep going with his military bona fides when he'd already pumped that up. Being a vet myself, I would be delighted to have him as our Senator if he's the one who gets the nod--even if he's not my first choice. I sure as hell won't support Burr under any circumstances.

Thanks for the info about his volunteer advocate days.

19. As someone who lives in NC - we MUST get rid of Burr
just as we HAD to get rid of Elizabeth Dole by voting for Kay Hagan. It's not great, I especially do not care for Hagan, but Dole and Burr are corporate whores of the worst kind. Change is desperately needed here.

If this had been an ad for a Repub candidate, all you would have heard was 30-60 seconds of why his opponent is the spawn of Satan.

In the Toledo area, there's this doofus named Rich Iott, who's trying to unseat Marcy Kaptur. His middle name might as well be Id. (Id-Iott...get it?) His TV ads are full of lies. He tries to tie Kaptur with HCR and government's takeover of our lives. He touts his resume as a business man. He took a chain of regional grocery stores down. He touts his military record. His Republican opponent pointed out that his "service" was exaggerated and the media backed it up.
