One of the big questions in this catastrophe is the failure of the Blow Out Preventer (BOP). This *is* the instant capping device, and it didn't work, at least not completely. One item not being mentioned is that the 1,000 barrels per day flow rate is pretty low coming out of a deepwater well. There must be some degree of flow restriction. In that sense we're lucky as a production flow rate of say 10,000+ barrels per day....... damn.

the rethugs don't want to "go back to 50's" with taxes. At that prosperous time in America, the wealthy and the corporations were taxed about 4 times as much as they currently are. Back then, a woman or a man could afford to "stay in the kitchen" while their mate earned a living wage. Hell, our wages (adjusted) aren't near what they were then. Of course now the wealthy have waay more than the majority (lowballed at 80%) who own 3% of the wealth. America a "Socialist" country in the 1950's? That is what the rethugs must think.
