Not according to the Bible. Ask Isaac!
And some NT quotes:
And the brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child: and the children shall rise up against their parents, and cause them to be put to death. Matthew 10:21
If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple. Luke 14:26
Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter-in-law against her mother-in law.
And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.
Matthew 10:34-36
And here's Jesus talking to Mother Mary:
Woman, what have I to do with thee?John 2:4
Thanks to Betty Bowers for putting these all in one place.
Of course there are no doubt many good things in the Bible about family. It's not all selling wives and daughters into prostitution! I'm sure submissive and serving wives and kids get much praise! But that's because the Bible will contradict anything it says a few books and verses later. Anything at all. That's one reason the Bible in itself is useless as a guide for living.
