3. oh yes - the party has a lot of 'mojo' - and it uses it against its own

22. Sorry! But if comparing Obama to Bush on human rights issues is "fringe,"
then I'm fringe.

A defendant's right to remain silent is in the Constitution. It is one of the most essential human rights we have. Those who refused to respect that right, those in the Bush administration who authorized torture, no matter how rich or important, should be prosecuted. A jury and the courts should decide whether our government should respect the universally fundamental right to remain silent.

But torture is only the second most essential human right. The first most essential human right is the right to a fair trial before a jury of our peers. No one should be sentenced TO DEATH without a jury trial. No one.

Woops! Obama claims the right to violate that right too. Who should be condemned and ridiculed?

Us "fringes" on the left who object to the infringements on these basic rights or Obama? You decide.

to throw even more of our money to the Bankers and Predators on Wall Street. No thanks!

We can't take any more of the corporatist polices.

My health insurance shoot up 38% a week before they passed HCR. My prescription drugs shoot up 10% this year.

bitching. It is sad and pathetic. Better yet, go vote for Nader if he decides to run for the 50th time and crash and burn again with him. Pretty sad to hear these kinds of comments on DEMOCRATIC Underground. (It is not BITCH FOREVER ABOUT DEMOCRATS UNDERGROUND.) This is ridiculous. One giant piss and moan fest when this administration has passed more progressive legislation than could have been imagined with the obstructionist R's. (That is, if you understand that Progressive actually means PROGRESS and not purity.) Unreal. Good for Gibbs. Damn time it was said.

Could not agree more! 30yrs or Conservative Rule is supposed to be wipe away in 18 months? Obama is trying to do what is right for the country in baby steps because any other way simply will not work! There are no magic wands!!!

called out. They sit in the backseat and bitch and moan all day long. They don't run for office, and they don't govern a damn thing. They have no clue how complicated it is. You're right, there is no magic want in the real world. They disregard PROGRESS because they want purity, and anything short of that is "terrible corporatist DLC horridness". This is the fringe and not the base. The real base supports Obama and Dems overwhelmingly, wants them to succeed, and knows how lucky they are that the RePUKES aren't in charge. Yes, more does need to be done, and legislation that has been passed is not perfect. But it is PROGRESS, which is what "progressives" are supposed to be for. Maybe they'd be happier with McSAME and Failin Palin. Christ almighty !

Shame that it's become vogue to bash anything Democratic on this board. Wondering how long that can sustain itself.

21. All the same old stuff.
"Maybe they'd be happier with McSAME and Failin Palin."

No. Straw man. And a pretty absurd one at that.

"Chronic bitchers."

President Obama said keep speaking up. Most people want to help make the administration better.

"They have no clue how complicated it is." Seriously? All these posters here who have been following politics all their lives and they are oblivious?

"It's DEMOCRATIC Underground." Yeah, it's also Democratic UNDERGROUND. If you don't understand that it is not everyone's life fulfillment to be a 'party-above-all-else person,' I don't know that I can explain it.

"The real base supports Obama and Dems overwhelmingly" If it makes you feel better to ignore the very real discontent out there, feel free, but, frankly, how one 'supports' is open to definition.

"and knows how lucky they are that the RePUKES aren't in charge." Don't know anybody here who doesn't know that, but know plenty of people who are worried that Dems simply acting like the RePUKES are in charge will put the RePUKES back in charge.

"They don't run for office." I can't run for office. I imagine a great many people are too busy trying to survive.

"It is progress." A lot of it has not been progressive, but regressive.

Many of us here are very educated and come here to stay informed on all aspects of an issue. We value critical thinking skill, analysis, alternative information, high principles and the intersections thereof. If you don't want people to talk about these things, you are telling them to shut up. If you are telling them to shut up, that's all the more reason to speak out on it. I seem to remember having my fill of White House press secretaries telling me to shut up during the Bush administration. Gibbs said some really stupid stuff, even if one agrees with the overall issue of looking at things from a broader perspective, he still said a bunch of stupid stuff.

And avoiding the actual "left" critiques of the Administration and of Congressional Dems.
