Have always felt that Huck Finn was one of the greatest books ever written. Maybe even the greatest. Twain was trying to teach people to be free-thinkers and question everything around them. One of his favorite targets being Religion.

It has always been close to my heart. Like Dickens, Harper Lee, and Faulkner, these writers have helped made me the liberal I am. And what

about Earnest Gaines' "A Lesson Before Dying." I almost

did not recommend this because what she said in the video

was so obvious. But when you come down to it, the obvious is needed repeating again and again and again.

2. I don't think it's obvious to most people, they think it's just a kids book adventure story

and most Christians don't know Twain was taking jabs at many of absurdity's in the Bible including it condoning slavery. In my opinion the key moment in the book is this part:

Huck Finn decides he would rather go to hell than turn in his close friend Jim as a run away slave. This is such a powerful moment and lesson in free-thought.

3. My daughter read it and now she is going into the 12'th grade.

She read Huck. She had classes in the civil war and ww2 last year. With what I explain to her I think she has a good concept of what happened. But I agree with what you said.
