In New York, the proposal to build an Islamic cultural center near the site of the September 11 attacks continues to dominate US headlines.
There has been two seperate rallies in the city - by both supporters and opponents.
The dispute has taken on political significance, with opposition Republicans using the issue to attack US president Barack Obama ahead of legislative elections.
