9. Exactly. jgraz. When Cenk is looking on the bright side of our 2010 defeat we know we're in trouble.
Here's the deal. The CONTROLLED media says Democrats are going to lose because they are demoralized while the GOP is full of hate I MEAN energized. So the Dems will stay home. Since the Dems will stay home they will lose. Since they will lose, there is no point in going out to vote. Got the logic? So stay home. No point in voting since we're DEMORALIZED. Got that???????

Let me explain it some more.

We are going to lose because we are too demoralized to vote.
We are too demoralized to vote because we are going to lose.

16. Enough already!!!
three maybe four would have been plenty. Quantity does not equal quality. Which, Ironically is the lesson the Party of NO needs to learn. Democrats in general seem ready to hand the keys to Mr. Creepy Orange Guy and his spiritual shadow Lil' snooty speaker Newty. And it will happen if we Democrats, especially the liberal wing of the party doesn't get three things real, real quick.

Those three things are in order: Mad, Vocal, and Active.

Let's take them one at a time, and lay it out solid, true and hard. Because if we want to win (and we must win to defend those who cannot defend themselves..AGAIN) that is what it will take.

1. Mad- Liberals have largely stood around silent while a Conservative Democratic President has been played for a fool and a dupe by big Oil companies, and small minded men from the Party of NO. We need to get LOUD (and I mean Ed Schultz loud) about the real truth behind the Party of NO. These Truths are:

-NO new Ideas

-NO new hopes

-NO Alternatives

The Party of NO has not, and will not, produce one single solitary meaningful alternative proposal to any issue they have obstructed. LOUD liberals need to start pinning these pin-heads to their chairs and pinning them down on what THEY want to do with YOUR Government. You'll get stammering, platitudes, an attempt to pile on President Obama, but what you won't get is ANY sort of substantial POLICY alternatives to Democratic Ideas.

Saying NO to everything in sight (even when they agree with it behind closed doors) is NOT Governing, or being a meaningful opposition.

The Party of NO wants to garrote people on Social security, food stamps, medicare, and those in every social program put in place since the New Deal. They will KILL people. Some moronic moose hunter from the 50th state came up with "Death panel" nonsense and almost everyone bought her snake oil. If these people, and people like her have anything to do with it, poor people will be denied medical care, food and housing. The poor will die, while moronic moose hunters from Alaska do "reality TV".

Remember what is at stake here. Not some meaningless, faceless elderly person, but your grandpop and grandma. YOURS. If you can't get mad enough over all of this to put down the remote, get the hell off the sofa and defend them, you have absolutely NO right to be a Democrat or anything else accept a spineless jelly belly. And that's the Truth of it, right down to the bone.

2) Vocal

I've said already that we need to be LOUD. It works for the party of NO. Their media-sponsored noise machine has billions behind it, but not one sandgrain of truth or integrity beyond getting brainless people to vote the way they tell them to.

-Was Harry Truman shy, quiet, and retiring?

-Did FDR go sit in the corner with the equivalent of "My pet goat" while a Nation wallowed in Misery?

-Did JFK call off the "New Frontier" when people carped about going to the Moon being too expensive?

-Did LBJ curl up into a fetal pose after Dallas and refuse to finish the Voting Rights Act. Or Medicare?

Democrats all did these things. They spoke hard truths to bitter times, and made it stick, because they were right, morally and politically, and there isn't one of you reading this that doesn't owe part of the world you know today to people who spoke up and spoke out, and kept at it, no matter the costs. All of these people we have who claim to be democrats who want to just roll over and let people like the moronic moose hunter from Alaska stomp boot prints into your butts need a good swift kick alright. Stand Up. Stand out. Tell the TRUTH. Remind the Party of NO what hell really is before they get handed the chance to send 40 million people there before themselves. If you have the GUTS, that is..

3)Active

Here's where cheap talk ends. Put down the TV remote and the keyboard and get involved. The future belongs to those who show up. That mean YOU. Not your sweet Auntie Matilda and Uncle Jefferson. Y-O-U!
If you are a Democrat, REGISTER AND VOTE, but don't stop there. Find a Democratic candidate running for office, show up and VOLUNTEER. You may not be some half cracked "media mogul" from "down under" with a bale of money and a TV network, but you have something more important and far more valuable. Your time, and your energy. What you are doing when you work to elect Democrats is simple, and direct as it can be. You're defending yourself, your children, and your shared future and freedom from the vast, noisy minority who want YOU and YOUR CHILDREN to pay for it while the Party of NO gets to take power (again) and loot the past, present and your future. Hit the streets with your beliefs. Speak out, person to person, and tell people the TRUTH.

These parasites from the Party of NO are banking on YOUR apathy to get another chance to pick your pockets, and stuff their own, while you drink dirty water, eat unsafe eggs, and then take meds from big Pharma that will kill you with side effects that only make lawyers, lobbyists, and of course, crooked politicians, rich.

Anyone who believes that I. or any other Democrat is ready to hand these sort of people any kind of "victory" is talking thru their hat.

We need to win for those who can't. But we have to be game for a fight. And I mean a brutal, back alley, broken bottle, and broken backs fight.

Paul Wellstone said that "To win a fight, sometimes you have to start one."

The difference between all of you doom prophets and me is simple.

I'll go into that alley alone, because I know I have to, and because I'M RIGHT.

But there's strength in numbers and shared convictions. I know where I stand, and I know what I have to do.

Where the hell are all the rest of you going to be?

And the Final truth is, that is the only question this campaign season that matters worth a damn.

3. "If the Republicans win in 2010", Cenk?
Oh, they'll win. But, he's right about some of those minority demographics and how Repubs are really shooting themselves in the foot alienating a voting bloc that's going to be a tsunami in a few years. He's right, too, about how they'll probably swing even further to the right when they get more seats in Congress. I know I've said this before, but it bears saying again. Not only is a new voting bloc coming up that will be cool to cold about their anti-minority and social agenda, but their most reliable Southern, over 65, pre-Civil Rights, segregationist voters are getting ready to become doddering or completely cash out in the next few years. They're going to find themselves with a shrinking base and a message that doesn't resonate anymore with the younger voters and the browner ones. Then, they'll be screwed. Having said that, some of you might be right. If anyone can snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, it's Democrats.

14. Which is why they've heavily invested in media, polling companies and voting machines.
"They're going to find themselves with a shrinking base and a message that doesn't resonate anymore with the younger voters and the browner ones. Then, they'll be screwed."

The "snatching defeat from the jaws of victory" thing is simply part of the frame.

5. if we lose seats
it will be because democrats, left leaning independents and moderate republicans are disillusioned with the current administration. Just the way republicans were disillusioned after Bush and not excited over McCain/Palin and didn't show up to vote. The void will be filled in with whoever is left. The rightwing is firing up their followers albeit inciting, but when you have no soundness on issues you use emotion. But I believe they're a minority and can be marginalized.

I'm not hearing the administration defending us. Are there any democratic rallies anywhere? Is there anyone in the administration that evokes a passion for what we're going through? Umm no. We're told we're idiots, we need to be drug tested and we're a tit on a cow. You don't win elections like this.

I think like Thom is saying Obama needs to pull some knowledge from FDR when he said:

We had to struggle with the old enemies of peace — business and financial monopoly, speculation, reckless banking, class antagonism, sectionalism, war profiteering. They had begun to consider the Government of the United States as a mere appendage to their own affairs. We know now that Government by organized money is just as dangerous as Government by organized mob.

Never before in all our history have these forces been so united against one candidate as they stand today. They are unanimous in their hate for me. And I welcome their hatred!"

When you own the message you win elections. Leave a void..shame on you..Attack your supporters..crickets sounds is what you'll hear.

Speech at this website.

Maybe he's not allowed to be funny, I haven;t seen enough MSNBC clips or he's just settling in but one of the things that really endears me to Cenk is his sharp wit and spontaneous off the cuff humor. I always either have a chuckle or a really loud laugh when I watch him does his thing on TYT.

BTW I know what he meant but it's comprise, not compromise ;-)

8. Totally right
The non white vote was 13% in 1992, 26% in 2008 and will be 34% in 2020.

Those numbers will keep growing into the 40s and 50% ranges.

And with the GOP now pushing repealing the 14th amendment, why would latinos vote for them? They know they are losing the latino vote, so now they are trying to take away Latino people's right to vote.

Can you imagine being a latino voter and openly supporting a party that wants to change the constitution to make it illegal for you and/or your kids to vote? The GOP carries about 30-40% of the latino vote. Hopefully that goes down.

Anyway, yeah, he is right. The GOP will win in 2010 but that'll be the death knell for them. The dems aren't perfect, but they are way better than the GOP. The GOP isn't going to win in 2010 because voters like them, they are going to win because of disillusionment and disappointment among democrats. Among voters the dems still win. among likely voters the GOP wins. Once people feel there is a reason to go out and vote power goes right back to the democrats.

10. Cenk is missing an important point.
Edited on Mon Aug-30-10 04:16 PM by ooglymoogly
The concern of the top 1% of this country pulling the strings; Is; Who will get the blame for their theft, by government fiat, of SS and every other large stash of of money not already stolen. Their plan is to continue robbing the country blind while blaming Democrats for their theft.

Corporate shills running as Dinos; Is the group they are paying attention to; As the DLC and Rahm continue to openly recruit pugs to run as Dinos; To vote pug when called upon, and pull the rug from candidates who are Democrats who will vote Democratic and are their only threat.

It is why, people who are democrats, do not understand how the impossible just keeps on happening, blaming all democrats for the treachery of its leaders; Dinos ocupying the DLC.

When the revolution comes, which it surely will; When folks realize the money they have payed into the SS trust has already been stolen and our crooked government controlled by that 1% by its shills and who actually stole the money; Will not honor its IOU's in the form of full faith government bonds with its full guarantee and backing;

And they can no longer be trusted to honor their air tight agreements to the seniors of this country; It is a small mater to them, that they will have to break long established law to do this;

The manufactured confusion of who is to blame, will be just great enough that the people of this country will blame the wrong people, All the Democrats.

While the pugs chortle in their cleavage. The people will not ask who actually benefited, as they never do, or who got the lolly, but who voted to allow its theft. That of course would be Dinos indistinguishable by democratic seal from real Democrats operating under that same seal. All now tainted, becoming pariahs for the next many decades.

You would think at some point the people of this country would catch on. I do not have a lot of hope for that.

11. And that's exactly why the corporatists are trying to co-opt the Dem party.
Dems will "tinker with" Social Security. And Dems will have minority votes, just as in the point Cenk was making above. Thing is, yes those Dems will get elected whereas Repubs won't, but they'll vote just the same and get away with it. Repubs will just do a "Charlie Crist" and become Independents more and more. So then they'll be the "kingmaker Independents" like Lieberman was, and add to that the Tea Party, and then the Conserva-Dems too. They'll still be getting their way most of the time just as it is now. And then it'll take the next generation a few decades to catch on to this revised game, just as it always does.

It's not such a rosy picture as it sounds, wish it was.

13. There are really a few new tricks in the shell game these days.
In order to squeeze the last few drops out of the coffers, it's become necessary to create a "good cop/bad cop" routine with Dems/Repubs. Those evil Republicans want to do such horrible things to us. We're told that the only way the Democrats can protect us is to "compromise." Dems will "save" social security by "making concessions" to the Republicans who will (predictably) threaten to destroy it completely. The Dems alternative will be a slow dismantling of social security, under the guise of "saving" it.

It's so frustrating that most Americans will never catch on to this.

Lately, the word "save" has become a euphemism for "destroy." Notice how in times of economic crisis it's suddenly time to "save" programs that require public funding? Public education? It's broken, we're told. Social Security? Also Broken. Medicare? Must be "saved."

All this "saving" is destroying the country.

22. SS is not a government funded program! It is a self funding program
Edited on Tue Aug-31-10 01:47 PM by ooglymoogly
funded by the people of this country. So successful the government cannot keep its hands off of it; So rich in loot, in the trillions, that government funds its own welfare programs for the rich by stealing from it and now that the "trust" is empty; They, like the thugs they are; Do not want to pay it back;
And their criminal gangs, the Dino's and the pugs will help them out if allowed to get their beaks wet; For a .00001% of a penny on the dollar; Adding up to a lot of money for common street whores.

And, without a care, shaft the people of this country, whom they look upon as flys in the ointment. The top 1% are the Dons of a criminal gang the size of which this world has never seen before; Invading and taking over; Calling themselves the Government of United States of America; Controlled by their surrogates; By Dinos and Pugs, the biggest criminal enterprise in the history of the world.

15. If they win in 2010 they are going to impeach Obama for being a secret Muslim from Kenya.
And the senate is going to vote not to convict, and then they are going to make up some other crap and impeach him again, ad nauseum until the next election.

And given that the average "swing vote" can't find the US on a map of North America, I'm not sure whether this strategy will end up helping or hurting them.

19. According to Rachel, the "anti-incumbent fervor" is a myth.
In only 7 out of 324 races did the incumbents lose. They could easily re-spin this election cycle as a demonstration of the enormous, almost insurmountable power of incumbency.

Cenk's point for Democrats seems to be to encourage the Tea Party and the Moose Huntin' Lady. Let them pursue Teh Stoopid and follow it right off a cliff.
