2. "Relgion... must be stopped"
How do you propose doing that, Old Fart?

To my mind you're no better than "Reverend" Jones.

3. I have a better idea!
Give the members of this church exploding bibles.

Or fill their church to the roof with free bibles, then toss in the match.

Why does stupidity get to rule this country? When will this nonsense stop?

6. Agreed -
Not a big supporter of organized religion because it leads to conflicts such as we are experiencing.

7. NO! I wish our Florida DUers would go, stand in a circle around
the fire, holding signs protesting the burning, so that the media pictures are of the protest, not the burning. Deprive the terrorists (and FAUX) of the propaganda pictures.

17. The only way to do that is rioting.
That'll get the press off the church. (not endorsing, just observation)

18. Better yet
Let hundreds of people show up with fire extinguishers and not allow him to burn anything....some may have to go to jail for trespassing but that is the only peaceful way to do it.

8. An even better idea!
I think that every Muslim in America, as well as their friends and supporters, should SHOW UP TO WATCH these mouthbreathers burn Korans. If, in spite of this pressure, they continue with this act, then the church, as well as all it's braindead members, will deserve the very response their actions create.

Then move on to the next church.

9. So, you encourage encitement of Muslims
until someone finally resorts to violence?

20. I don't understand
anyone appealing to violence as a response to this.

Would violence have been an appropriate response to Serrano's 'piss christ'? Should he have been stabbed to death like the Dutch filmmaker?

Perversely, the threats by the radicals aren't being condemned as much as this man's peaceful protest.

If the fundie in Florida pulled out a flag at the last second and burned it instead, we'd all support his 1st amendment rights, wouldn't we?

This is no different, even if we disagree with it.

10. How about we stop running this as a news story?
I know that the American media's 24/7 news cycle needs drama, but giving free publicity to this group of mouthbreathers who call themselves Christians is just ridiculous.

As for burning Bibles... that's no different than what they are doing and personally I'd rather not be associated with that type of hate and intolerance.

12. On a side note
Edited on Wed Sep-08-10 01:10 PM by Better Today
Y'know I can't breathe through my nose because my sinus passages are collapsed from having been punched in the face routinely as a child, other folks can't breathe through their noses for other reasons like severe allergies and such. I'd really appreciate if you wouldn't use mouthbreather as a derogatory remark, it makes no sense since there's no evidence that troglodytes breathed only through their mouths, and like saying something is "gay", it tends to offend more than you meant to.

15. Books are not for burning...
no matter how useless they are. Even drivel put out by the likes of O'Reilly stand as a permanent record of just how vile and hateful some people are.

22. Aw Shucks...
I sure want to put a torch to my old Financial Accounting II text. No amount of protesting will stop me.

Eventually, we'll have more ebooks than anything else. Maybe that will stop the book burning.

21. fun rant fartster
fun rant fartster ... the problem with english speakers is that their language cannot describe or encompass things or ideas other than the manifested physical realm evident around them. such english words and even concepts are limited and many-times-translated and derived from the seed of abraham his many authoritarian semite variants and unimpeachable scriptures. one truly impressive and aggressive and expansive human tribe ...

i do wholeheartedly agree, however, that the unholy and unenlightened wreaking unholy atrocities on equally-unholy philosophical in-laws for not succumbing to fairy tales derived of the same family lineage is absurd.
