Making herculean and monumental conclusions and pronouncements on some realities that do not extrapolate to your silly conclusions; That do indeed have an unusual influence on the history of this country. That generation was put down by pure fascism, A fascism beginning with the shooting of 13 student in 13 seconds of a barrage of live bullets into a crowd, at Kent state.
The machinations of the right are always shrouded in religious platitudes, same as it has always been when the right becomes threatened and they were threatened by those called "hippies" as they are always threatened by any large group of democrats; Or at least they pretended to be.
What did influence the history of this country toward the present circumstances?
No. 1; The very suspicious assassination of a wildly popular president to those on the left; Who was in process of a shakeup of both the CeyeA and the Fd Re$erve; And the convenient pardon of Nixon.
Hippies themselves were the growth pains of a free and prosperous society and incidentally happened all over the civilized world; Here, those who could not fathom the assassination of a siting president, JFK, whom they loved and consequently realized they could no longer trust the government of their country.
They rose during the cooldown from the aftermath of that world damaging event, during the LBJ presidency; The strange circumstance of that assassination still in question today.
After that it was a downward spiral for this country only slightly interrupted by the impeachment of RN.
The way the neocons and the right became once again emboldened by that assassination was finally realized with the election of RN and RR who like you blamed it all on the hippies and who came down hard on the free thinkers who formed much of the culture, ideas, sexual boundaries, fashion, music, and much more, we live with today; Including cyberworld, and who, granted, took their freedoms and liberties before the assassination, for granted.
The hippies were no more than a sideshow to events in History, no matter how much the right blames them for their own treachery.
Their mistrust came into focus and reality with the Kent state Massacre, when 13 students where shot in 13 seconds of massive shooting into the crowd of protesters; Four shot dead, one paralyzed, 9 seriously wounded; Demoralizing the country; Young folks shot dead by Ohio National guard Nazi's; The precursor to the impeachment of RN.
Further; Hippies were not just in the US but all over Europe and other parts of the world and they do not blame any of their shortcomings or present problems, conveniently, on hippies.
To blame it all on the hippies as did Nixon and RR, thereby indemnifying their calumnies, to start the debilitating drug wars, declaring war on its own people;
To further a not too subtle agenda with such claptrap, is the height of ignorance and flat out fabrication and distortion of the facts and their meaning.
