I think her actions are going to hurt the image of the SCOTUS in the long run.
I wonder what the Supreme Court Justices think of her being in the spotlight.

3. I am a woman. A very liberal and outspoken woman. BUT....
Edited on Mon Sep-13-10 11:19 PM by Tx4obama
when you are the spouse of a Supreme Court Justice or any high ranking official - there is an obligation to NOT bring controversy into the media that will affect your spouses' position.
The Thomas' knew that and if they wanted to step into the spotlight of the media to rally around controversial issues then either 1) Thomas should not have accepted the appointment, or 2) He should resign.

12. No. She is free to say ANYTHING she likes. But given her husband's position
she opens both herself and her husband to criticism. Free speech works TWO ways.

Her comments imply that the very government of which her husband is an integral member is illegitimate. She invokes the vocabulary of armed revolution against that same government.

"There's a war going on."

"We are feeling pulled to the front lines."

"Everyday citizens have stayed.... have stuck their feet in the ground and planted a flag in the ground and stopped tyranny before."

And then she goes even further to speak for not only herself, but for her husband, a Supreme Court Justice, as well:

"If something happens in Washington, my husband and I are headed to Texas."

19. Mrs. Thomas should have not mentioned her husband
inspite of the fact that we know he is a right wing puppet. Traditionley SCJ's have remained out of the political spotlight. She has the right to do her thing, but she has verified that her husband is politically biased by including him in her verbal agenda.

13. WTF are you talking about?
I am SURE you can't think Rachel Maddow (RACHEL 'F'ING' MADDOW) was making that point. Are you really that dense or are you just trying to stir up s*^t??

5. Why is it that Republican Supreme Court justices can be so nakedly GOP?

Because the GOP hollers and we are quiet as mice.

Ronald Reagan called the Democrats, "Liberal, liberal, liberal."

The Democrats immediately began falling all over themselves to apologize.

We have been hiding under the desk ever since.

This is a party that refuses to go on the attack, refuses to get angry, refuses to pound the podium, refuses to rail, refuses to raise its voice. The other side does it all the time while we are deer in headlights. This is why people like Thomas and his wife and ALL the GOP coup plotters in this country think they can get away with bloody murder. Because they fight and we lie at anchor afraid of our own shadow.

6. Yes and the irony of it all
is that if we fought back even a little bit we could very easily show them up for what they are i.e., imbeciles, thugs, evil, you name it. But we don't and that cowardice makes us almost as bad.

14. What you mean "WE?" I certainly don't do any of those things
And actual liberals and progressives don't. Liberals like Russ Feingold, Anthony Weiner and Alan Grayson, to name a few don't. The corporate Dems who are no more than Republicans who won Democratic party nominations (thanks in LARGE part to Rahm Emmauel) wide and refuse to fight. But they do so because they are on the other side.

7. She seems to think we are at risk of "losing our country."
Just what does she mean by that? Does Thomas hold the same opinion?

Doesn't she think her husband and the other Supreme Court justices would prevent some sort of "losing our country" events?

What is she talking about? This is very troubling. Is she suggesting that Democrats are traitors? If so, what specifically have Democrats done that is a betrayal. I don't understand what in the world she could be talking about. Does anyone know what she is so worried about? I haven't seen much difference between the Obama administration and the Bush administration. Not much at all.

It was the Bush administration that did the bail-outs. Do you suppose that is what upset her?

Does she object to broader health care coverage? What??????

10. Well gee, her husband was one of the justices who helped
appoint Bush, and thereby over-riding the will of the voters and decision of the state. Yet, she's worried about tyranny? Would she like to explain?

I found myself repeating "WHAT is she TALKING about???" What betrayals have happened? What constitutional rights have been taken away? Was there a gulag opened up, where conservatives, and there representatives in government have been purged to?

WTF??? She sounds as bat crap crazy as the rest of those tea bagging lunatics.

9. She is quite the political animal and activist. She's pretty
extreme, and supposedly the two of them are quite like-minded, and she's his closest confidant. But then, it's really no big surprise either that our partisan SCOTUS is yet one more "institution" that has jelled into another arm of the GOP.

17. She's not a Supreme Court justice...
She doesn't have to be impartial. Her husband does. Judges have conflicts all around them at times.

20. By mentioning her husband and including him in her political
thoughts, she has opened up the possibilty that he holds the same political outlook. She has the right to express her political views, but SC Justices traditionly remain mute on thir poltical viewpoints. Of course most of us already know that Justice Thomas is a GOP tool. She wouldn't even be on the political train if she wasn't Thomases personal puppet.

21. She has the right to say what she wants, but this is so unseemly.
It's also telling that she is choosing to associate herself with the lowest common denominator among the conservative fringe. She, just like Dick Armey, Ralph Reed and the Koch brothers, has a vested interest in dividing Americans and creating irrational anger against people who don't look like her. I won't even touch the irony.

By the way, when she mentioned that both she and her husband were "troublemakers,' does that include sexual harassment?
