and the history of race relations in this country. The truth is much more ugly than we know.

2. This is a real problem

Attitudes of the general populace aside, i.e., too many teabaggers and their ilk would rather starve than risk help going to "those people", the Senate was dragging its feet just a few months ago over extending unemployment benefits to those that need it. That includes a lot of white people. When a climate of "no/stop social spending" is so pervasive, everyone loses.

There's something wrong when there's always money for missiles, bombs, and bullets, but none for beds, books, and bread.
