(Highly recommended short documentary from Al Jazeera English which exposes Texas oil companies' (& the Koch Brother's) role in Proposition 23. If you don't have time to watch it now, 'favorite' on YouTube or bookmark http://english.aljazeera.net/programmes/peopleandpower/2010/10/20101027103846845445.html">this page for later viewing)

In California they will also be voting on a proposal called Proposition 23, which could have a profound impact on efforts to deal with climate change.

In 2006, California passed the Global Warming Solutions Act, this was landmark legislation designed to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions by the year 2020.

However Proposition 23 would suspend efforts to reduce those emissions until the state's unemployment rate stayed below 5.5 per cent for four consecutive quarters.

That has only been achieved three times in the last 40 years, and the number of jobless currently stands at more than 12 per cent.

With Barack Obama, the US president, and the Congress unable to pass a national clean energy bill, the state's global warming law was being hailed as the most powerful stimulus for a green technology revolution in the US.

But as filmmakers Joe Rubin and Dan McKinney found out, powerful fossil fuel interests are determined to stop California from providing that lead.

3. Yes, I meant to say that also. It's sad that we have to go to Al
Jazeera to find out what is going on here ....

Wish I had had this a few days ago to send to people who were confused on this issue.

2. Thanks Turborama
I know a few people who will be voting against this tomorrow. There really should have been much more information on it as several people I have talked to did not know what it was about and weren't sure how to vote on it.

5. Sorry it was a bit late
I saw it on TV the other day and couldn't find it on YouTube at the time, unfortunately it's a bit late to pass on to the people you talked to and not within the time limit which would have allowed it to go on the front page.

It's one proposition I'll be keeping a close eye on as it's result will be having wide ranging implications, glad to hear you know a few people who are voting against it.

:hi:

8. Yes, it was an important issue and it looks like people
were aware of it as it did not succeed. :-)

6. The ballot was full of corporate sponsored entitlements for the aristocracy
Prop 23 was one I made sure to vote against.

So, have we beaten Taxas for the second night in a row?
