1. I like his up beat speech but..
The party of "No" is going to make life difficult for all of us, if they can't get what they want. Civility aside, there are going to be back room whispers, and a lot unexpressed hate in the undercurrent. This doesn't give me much hope for change at all.

2. Blah, blah, blah. Please Mr. President, don't lie to us.
You know as well as we do that the Republicans have no intention to work with you or with any Democrat.

John Boehner's strategy of "No, No, and No Again" is what won the House for the Republicans.

If Mr. President moves one more inch to the right, if he accommodates the No-sayers in the Republican Party on one more issue (well, I'm exaggerating a bit), it will be the end of the Democratic Party.

The Republicans are going to try to kill Social Security, health care reform, etc., and President Obama is going to have to get up the courage to veto those bills and just accept a do-nothing Congress and a do-nothing presidency.

He has two years to show the American people who deserves to lead this country. For the sake of the country, I hope that President Obama finally gets the fact that you cannot appease your way to Hope.

4. true, the Republicans think they will push things through and we need to do what they did now

block. stop. hold.

I think the Democratic Party will rebound nicely in 2012 when the 'we can do it' liars in the GOP are handed their own medicine right back at them as they dished it out, showing that their being in charge offered nothing but more of the same from the Bush years. No action. No answers. Just games.

Two years will fly by, and they will have shown they can do nothing but stew and play politics and need to be booted out and Democrats brought in for a super-super majority to finally fix this country for the better. REAL Democrats, not these Blanche Lincolns and turncoat Joe Liebermans.

block. stop. hold.

the GOP deserves as much.

6. I hope you are right.
But we need to be organizing now. Unfortunately, this year I was not very energized and in addition have had personal difficulties. That should be past before long.

I think we need to work together to do more than just blog with each other. We need to start thinking and moving outward more. I'm not sure how to do it, but I am working on that.

10. Tomm2thumbs, did you just say "block, stop, hold"?

We can't have THAT!

We have to show the Republicans that we LOVE them!

That's really gonna work......

Block, stop, hold? Why, that couldn't POSSIBLY work. Just like the GOP didn't just win the House.....................

3. The right's opinion of conciliation....
The right's opinion of conciliation is see things their way. They will never, ever, ever, compromise with us. There are only two ways this will pan out.

1) The left holds to their ideals and principles and we have gridlock.

2) The left, worried about keeping their jobs since w have no term limits, will cave in and help pass rightwing legislation that undoes all the work we have done for the past two years.

What do we all think is going to be the way the Dems choose?

5. Jeeezus the Charlie Brown
"Lucy is gonna hold the ball this time" Speech. The Republicans have no intention of working with President Obama, they want him to fail. They want this to be a one term President, they have said this, openly and repeatedly.

You still have the majority, use as much of it as you can, because after January, the Democrats will be the little dutch boy, poking fingers into the dike to stop leaks.

7. It's not too late for Obama to grab the literal bull by the horns
Whatever deals were cut when he took office should be canceled. Prosecutions for Rove et al should commence. Justice Roberts should be impeached. DeLay's gerrymandering scheme should be revoked. Mass media should be denied public airway access if they do not provide public service and do not act responsibly. Candidates should get equal and free airtime to present their platform and face fines for lying or slandering on air. An addendum to the health care bill for mental illness, so the crazies can get help and baggers can get de-programmed. Advisers who have not performed or yielded results should be fired, just like out here in the real world.
Then, stop the Republican agenda of murdering unions and tort reform law- the 2 biggest Democratic contributors (Thom Hartman today). Stop any idea of ending social security- which amounts to genocide of the poor.
There. President Obama? You can rise to the occasion now or go down in flames, which is what their after.

9. Oh Suzanner, don't say that around our party leadership. They might accuse you of being a Democrat.

Fire staff and our party leadership? Golly shucks! What are you, some kind of Howard Dean lover? Can't have THAT.

And use the bully pulpit to kick the GOP's ass? We can't do THAT! That would mean just spending 2 years saying no to the other side! That might take back the House in 2 years! Who would ever do a nasty thing like that ????????????????????????

You're obviously some sorta librul...............

8. Welp, there you have it. Civility, comity, collegiality and extending the olive branch to the GOP.

And step #5 is for the Democratic party to continue to kiss it's ass goodbye.

But we have to work with the Republicans blah blah.....

Einstein said, "The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result."

There's a story of two Democrats who were taken out by Republicans to be shot.

At the last possible moment one of the Democrats protests feebly, "The blindfold is too tight!"

The other Democrat whispers frantically: "Quiet! They might call us 'socialist'!"
