Why couldn't we have started with those? unfunded wars, penalizing employers who hire illegal immigrants, actually funding programs, etc. Instead we start with health care - probably the most divisive place we could have started. If only someone was in some sort of leadership role in this country...

8. There is the false vision that Republicans sell, in a nutshell.

"I want to be rich." "Why can't we all be rich?"

This is what middle-class and poor Republicans buy into - the idea that they will be rich. Someday. Someday, their Horatio Alger dream will come true, and they will be one of the rich. Or maybe, their kids will be rich. Therefore, there shouldn't be any kind of "burden" placed on the rich because they will be rich, too. The plain and simple reality is that the vast majority of these middle-class and poor Republicans won't ever be really rich. Ever. I hate this guy for what he's selling. It's the opiate of the Republican masses. Combine it with the gospel of prosperity ("God wants you to be rich") and you have a very powerful drug. I wish America could be put through rehab for this - but Republicans would probably relapse worse than Lindsay Lohan.

"Why can't we all be rich?" Because the pie is only so big, and because the top 1% that has been very busy the last 30 years grabbing more of that pie. Oh, by the way, they'll never be satisfied.

I love the way he engages with facts with prominent right wingers.

Amazing that while Thom knows his facts about taxation and our economic history, the other guy has no idea but just wants to push it being somehow unfair to return the tax rates to those that were most beneficial for our economy as a whole.
