Yup, he is quite right there is no functioning democracy in America,. . when the politically powerful push their own agenda that is counter to the will of the majority the democracy is indeed very broken. Voting every now and again, when called to do so, does not a democracy make,. . esp. when the poles are so suspect,. and the corporate banksters can fund any propaganda and their agents so freely,. .

4. At best_ we have the illusion of a dysfunctional Democracy

but, as you pointed out, because of the money influence and main stream media fraud; we the sheepeople are literally voting for hand picked predators that are on the corporate payroll; the only exceptions being a small handful of marginalized democrats. I don't believe that this even qualifies for a dysfunctional Democracy, but because so much is spent on the illusion and actors that play the roles of politicians, I think it's safe to call it a pretend democracy, as well as other more appropriate descriptions such as plutocracy and pathocracy etc...
