I hope the rest of the world does not become complacent and fall victim to the same in sanity. We need someplace to flee to.

22. If it's making fun of the TSA, why is it set in a Japanese airport?
Doesn't seem like they're commenting on our airline security given that this is set in Japan, just making a generic Benny Hill-esque sex comedy joke.

29. I'm just saying...
Edited on Wed Nov-24-10 09:26 PM by TheeHazelnut
If they were going to satirize our security, one would think that it would be a Japanese tourist or businessman being harassed by American security in an American airport, if they were really upset about how our airports treat people. There are plenty of American actors over in Japan who appear on TV when needed. I'm thinking someone posted this generic skit from Japanese TV and gave it the topical label "Japan making fun of the US" even though that wasn't what the skit was really about, simply because most of us don't know Japanese well enough to know what's being said in the skit.

39. this is a skit about over the top airport security, which we are the biggest promoters of
so i think it is reasonable to assume that we are the inspiration, if not the target, of the skit.

48. we had over the top airport security then, too
and since the U.S. has a huge influence on Japan, it isn't a stretch to think this skit was influenced by our airport security policies.

either way, it definitely resonates here, considering our policy.

26. It's Japanese TV, Many of the viewers don't read English.
I don't read Japanese so I can do no more than guess, but the sign may very well say "American Airport Security".

TV has to bend reality a little so the audience can get the larger story. Just like on American tv, all it takes to get through the enemy's checkpoint is to steal a uniform and speak English in the enemy's accent.

30. in Japan, there are countless English signs on businesses
Edited on Wed Nov-24-10 09:28 PM by TheeHazelnut
It's a commonplace sight in Japan to see businesses and t-shirts with English writing on them.

If they were making fun of America there would at least be an American flag or some sort of sign this was supposed to be taking place in America.

34. The writing might be "English"
Edited on Thu Nov-25-10 12:57 AM by Art_from_Ark
but often it doesn't make any sense, especially on T-shirts. Like

"Hysterical beauty cat"

or

"Rampaging flower lover"

Having lived in Japan for years, I should add that the Japanese sense of satire is not like it is in the West. Not having seen the rest of this program (and I have a feeling that it was probably shown in the Osaka/Kyoto area but not this Tokyo area), it could easily have been a satire on US airport security. For example, if the lead-in was "What would happen if Japan adopted American airport security measures?", then it would be understood to be a satire about US airports without needing visual aids.

36. You haven't even heard the real punchline yet...
-Right now right wingers are demonizing the Obama Administration for these airport procedures.
-The public backlash against them is overwhelming.
-Eventually (soon) the airlines will begin to feel the pinch from reduced travel and demand changes.
-The airport procedures will be changed, and at that time there will be right wingers screaming bloody murder over airline safety, and blaming the Obama Administration for the lack of body scanners and invasive searches.

I hope you are right but I heard this on the radio and looked it up:

For the article, see:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/11/22/AR2010112205514.html

Truth is, there are not enough people who understand the principles of the founding fathers. They have buckled like the sheep they are.

However, I don't think it matters. I think that the vocal "minority" (which is actually pretty sizable) can make a difference. The trick will be if a major organizer comes forth and provides the structure to beat back the TSA.

says that this program may not be fit for all ages, and that you have to acknowledge that you are 18 or older in order to view it. Looks like late-night Osaka TV to me-- they don't show anything as interesting as that in this Tokyo area at any time of the night.

It seems that the main male actor is named Ken Shimura. The skit is called "Sukebe no Kensain" ("Lecherous Inspector") and it aired on Fuji TV as early as October 28, 2008.

42. that's what I've been saying above in the thread
people seem to think the rest of the world is obsessed with America to the point that if they do a sketch about an airport security officer it has to be about America (even when the details of the security shown in the clip don't match our TSA procedures at all)
