1. Interesting, the (undoubtedly true) assertion that
the rate of eating disorders continues to rise at the same time as does the rate of obesity in this country and in the industrialized world. Also interesting: the connection between objectifying women and violence against women.

2. I think a lot of people would prefer not to think about these facts.

4. Indeed.
I also believe that women have some power over their own actions and if we didn't all fall in line by perching ourselves on precarious heels, disguise ourselves with layers of makeup and other nonsense, and deride other women who don't pull it off as well, we'd be taking a step in the right direction. There is a cost of course, but it would be lower if more of us refused to play the game.
