Private banks (subsidized by the government), investment advisors and employers take them instead.

I saw this happen to very elderly people during the 2008 crash. What do you think the whole crash and sub-prime crisis were about? The theft of pension savings, that's what.

I saw statements of the investment accounts of very elderly people just before and after the crash. No one went into the streets -- because the victims either are too young to realize what has been done to them or too elderly to understand or be able to protest in the streets.
