...but it doesn't stop me from doing it. At least the ones who don't denounce this pandering to violent verbal imagery (and frankly I can't think of a single one who has). As I've said previously with respect to
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=214&topic_id=269473&mesg_id=269656">moderate/liberal Christians, this likewise applies to conservatives:
"if someone is blatantly lying about your beliefs and what you stand for then you have an obligation to vociferously deny what they're saying is the truth." You don't have to stop breathing. And you don't even have to try and make them stop telling the lies. But you do have to say what you believe to be true. To stand up for civility and everyone's right to say what they want and believe what they want without being subjected to violence and/or threats of violence.
Failing that, you're allowing others to define you and to create an environment of incivility where things like what happened in Tucson becomes more and more likely.
But conservatives won't defy Limbaugh, Palin, nor even a loony-tune like Glen Beck because they're either afraid to, or they agree with them. They realize that these demagogues are their base's heroes. They fear telling the truth about these lying charlatans because they realize they'd lose their positions of political power. Others may simply agree with what they are saying but lack sufficient courage to say out loud what they themselves believe to be true.
- So conservatives can bleat all they want Cenk. But the stink is on their shoes because of where they walk..........
