Of the Powers That Be to increase the level of Anarchism. The government's ultimate weapon is to control the populace's outrage with calmness and civility. Once the protesters become a mob the government has lost complete control. Letting criminals roam the streets, adding to the uncertainty of what will happen next, cannot be to anyone's advantage except those with the most to win; Extremists.

This scenario can only lead to anarchy. There is no lack of groups that want to fill the power vacuum that would ensue after the government falls. At this point, the group that has the best chance to grab power would not be friendly to the US. This is not a bad thing, if you believe in Karma. However, Egypt has been the controlling power in the Middle East for millennium. If the government falls, Israel will have its hands full, Saudi Arabia would be less stable (again, Karma) and the entire region could be the powder keg that does set off a global fight for dominance. Maybe the fundies are right after all: 2012 is the year of their Armageddon.
