In this edition of Peter Lavelle's CrossTalk, he and his guests discuss and question the ultimate effectiveness of exporting and also limiting democracy due to geopolitical interests.

1. Hell no! The U.S. should keep its hands off this one.
Of course, it could cut off its subsidies to the Mubarak government -- that would be good. But it will only screw it all up if it tries to intervene.

2. You would be surprised how many people in General Discussion and GD-P have been arguing for the US
to "do something". Of course, trying to pin down those folks on what to do is like trying to pin down Republicans on what budget items they want to cut. Its easy to say we should "do something". Its not so easy from a Progressive/Liberal/Democratic perspective to offer what to do to intervene in an uprising in another country.

3. The US is involved.
The US has been involved...the weapons being used against the protesters are stamped 'made in the USA.' The US has been using Egypt as a torture site. Perhaps it's time for the US to stay out of the fray and let the Egyptians change the direction of government. Of course, that's a messy process, but it will lead to a more equitable distribution of wealth, among other things.
