Here's my house. I work as a teacher. My wife works for our church. I love my family, my God, and my country. I pay my taxes, buy local products, work hard at my job, believe in what I do, and already have to work other jobs to make ends meet. I am sorry if my luxurious home offends you, but like my job, it is now open to public scrutiny.
I do not dislike Scott Walker, but even if the only hit I take is about 10% loss in salary, I will have trouble affording my home. Further cuts to education funding could result in even greater pay loss.
I did not cause the economic collapse. I am not one of the richest 1% owning half of our wealth, assets, and income and receiving most of our bailouts. I can't even afford to live in the county in which I teach.
And I am not alone.

1. I want this worker to keep all he has
He deserves it. I'm glad that he has what he has. Having said as much though, I'm a state worker too (California) and one of his rooms looks bigger than our whole apartment. I live in the SF Bay Area where housing costs are very high.

I hope none of the 14 cave, but it's always hard hoping an elected Democrat will stand up to the Republicans. I think even one of the Texas Democrats eventually caved and DeLay got his redistricting.

2. It's the region. I'm a Californian who's been in Ohio for 13 years.

One of the reasons I moved was the high cost of housing. This guy's house is about average. But I know it would be a mansion in CA.

9. It looks wonderful to Californians. But I am from the Midwest, and
I know that $500,000 buys a lot more house there than it does here. No. My house did not cost anywhere near $500,000. My kids tell me that our house is a tear-down -- the California word for shack. It really isn't a shack but you get the idea.

The house looks like an average midwestern house. Now let's see what the houses of the Republican legislators look like. I bet they wouldn't dare put them on YouTube. Invasion of privacy, of course.

Hmm!! Now there's a job for a Wikileaks knock-off. Wonder what the houses of our senators and congressmen and women look like. Hmmmmmm!

4. This says so much
about who teachers and other public employees are, what they really want, and why collective bargaining and unions are so important for the real health of the country. I grew up in a family in the 1950s Jersey burbs. My wife and I are teachers as are my sister, my brother-in-law and my sisters-in-law( all of us obviously older than this teacher) and as my mother was. But that is the kind of beginning middle class home I grew up in - books and toys. That is the kind of home our guys, and all their cousins, were raised in - books and toys.

What that family is fighting to keep is exactly what the right wing is out to destroy - the real middle class. I can't tell you how much that video moved me and shook me. Thanks for posting it.

6. Thanks for sharing, what a great idea
we should share more like this with each other, I think it may help us to get to know each other & create a stronger more connected 'base'. I think your house is lovely, and the street is nice too. And you deserve every damn sheet and table and shelf unit, because you are a human being, and a citizen of a democracy and this is why we work, to have a home where we can live and house our families, fulfill our dreams, and contribute to society which we all do through our work whether we clean the schools or teach in them.
We grew up with teachers, farmers, nurses and firefighters presented to us as examples of people who had to give their best every day and who deserved to be paid decent wages and respected, and we were taught to aspire to that kind of effort.
For decades the working class and the poor have been patronized, defamed, sneered at, robbed, poisoned, dispossessed, and whenever possible used by the Right Wing and by false leaders of our own party. The middle class is the target and experimental test subject for the Right Wing; they try to divide the middle class in two with culture wars, then destroy their economic security so that they are willing to accept the destruction of the safety net for the poor as necessary for the good of the country. Now the insecurity of the American workforce will be used to target the civil infrastructure that sustains us, beginning with our public employees.
Scott Walker, like many others, has decided to use the Right Wing war on democracy for his own resume building.
I do dislike Scott Walker, and all the lackeys who profit from him, because his so-called ideology and that of his ilk is just a cover for theft on an obscene scale, he wants to be filthy rich and he has jumped onto the Right Wing Gravy Train, the one that has makes good use of creeps like him, right under the nose of our weak and co-opted Party, to rob our country blind.

11. In Cuba they do!
One of the most honored and revered professions in Cuba, an aspiration to many many children there, is to be a teacher.

Been there. Seen it.
