I do not buy that the President is simply isolated by his advisors and that if he only knew the truth he'd change. BULLSHIT. He knows and is just cynically playing Machiavellian to do whatever political calculus is necessary to maintain a grip on power. Namely his strategy has ALWAYS been to carry the water for the most powerful of interests, regardless of their political ideology, and to turn his back on the powerless people who put him into office.

I have followed his career since the late 80's and this is simply who Obama is. He is not ignorant, benevolent, or courageous, or possessing any moral code. He simply adopts the view and takes the instructions of the ruling moneyed elite.

the get-along-guy. I have some of the same makeup (and I'm a white woman) but I will go above and beyond, often to my detriment, to try to get others to Play Nice. Plus, I always give the person "just one more chance". I'm 57 so don't think I'll change at this stage, and am so glad I never got married because I can just see me living with some ass for far too long because I want to believe in the goodness in people. :shrug:

But being black and having to deal with the racism and bigotry all his life -- I'm don't see how that COULDN'T affect him to some extent.

I'm female, older than you, and I went into engineering/science where I actually got assaulted by fellow students for "taking a place away from a man." There's no way that turned me into a get along person. If I were President,and it were necessary, I'd bust chops to get things done, just as I did as a manager.

(Yes, I did get promoted even though I was female. No raise though. And I discovered that the people I was supervising, all male, made 30% more than I had in their job slot. That I got fixed, although I never got a retroactive compensation.)

Naturally they are going to see things from a different perspective and it is going to get filtered to him. I was always dismayed that he doesn't have ANY top level black advisors. For Chrissakes he's supposed to be from Chicago! Chicago has the second largest number of African Americans of any city. He has no close "friends" other than rich white guys?

Again, my take on it is that he turns his back on those who propelled him to power, and now is the lapdog of the rich, white, elite in a vain attempt to be accepted as one of them.

He chose his advisors, and by extension, their policies.

Plus the KINDS of advisors trouble me, too. I'm thinking he should have the likes of Paul Krugman instead of Geithner, Reich in some role, should have NEVER let Van Jones go, etc.

What role is his wife playing in advising him? I used to think that spouses of leaders - especially US Presidents - tend to be their closest confidants? Does his wife not have any influence in all of his decisions?

I am coming to believe that he is agreement politically with rethuglicans - possibly moderately conservative rethuglicans and a closet DLC, or Third Way or New Democrat member.

But we do need clean air, water, soil -- and an environment free from atomic weapons and

nuclear power plants!


At this point, our vegetation even as it exists now has been robbed of pretty much

all of its nutrients!
