I was too young to see Queen while he was still alive, so when they toured in 2005 with Paul Rodgers, I flew to Philly to see them. It was magic.

It's great he's being paid tribute to, but he's shown frolicking with giant Google advertisment logos and Google didn't even exist when he was alive. Kind of turning him into a corporate spokesman against his will (I'm assuming with the agreement of the band and his estate, obviously). Just another way that corporations twist our love for things into love for them.

...but their doodles are frequently nice and this one is one of the best.

And I've been going to concerts since 1975. Saw Queen twice in '77 in L.A. and they were stupendous both times. Freddie was a true original. Had he gotten sick a bit later in the 90s, we'd probably still have him.

The final Queen album, "Innuendo," was made when Freddie was really starting to get sick. You would never know from his vocals on that record that there was anything wrong with him.

"The show must go on!"

And yeah, Google needs to keep their paws off our rock stars. Let them do a Katy Perry clip or something, but stay away from the REAL rock stars.

When I bought it, I thought it would be a weak wind down. It ended up being some of their best work since the 70s.

17. Freddie was incredible

and I think that he had the best voice I have ever heard. I saw a 'tribute' concert a few months ago and that again sparked my interest in Freddie Mercury. So I bought several books about him and five or six CDs and a concert video. I listened to him years ago but appreciate what he did much more now. Some of his less popular songs are amazing - much better (in my opnion) than the songs that were big hits. I even have my grown up children listening to him again.

23. Did you ever hear

him sing Barcelona with Montserrat Caballe? I've posted this so many times at DU I feel like a broken record but for a pop singer to hold their own with a world-reknowned classical opera singer, you know he had to have an incredible voice. In fact, I didn't really appreciate what a great voice he had until I heard him sing this. Any other pop singer I ever heard sing with an opera singer sounded so bad in comparison, I was blown away when I heard him sing this.

I have the Opera CD. All the songs are amazing. Sometimes they make me happy and sometimes they can also make me get a bit choked up. He did have such an amazing voice.

and can't understand why it never got more play time than it did.

I'm sure a lot of you know this, but I just found out some fascinating biographical facts about him. He was born under the name Farrokh Bulsara in Zanzibar, Tanzania of all places. His parents were Parsis from Iran. He went to school in Bombay before moving to England. Really gives a different dimension to a lot of his self-consciously British songs.
