Like we weren't afraid to talk about Clinton or Janet Jackson's ******-slip... OK, maybe we're a little prudish...

I remember in the 80s when (talking about American film) it was said that "you can cut off a nipple but you can't caress it". We get outraged by anything sexual but violence is very popular.

We are innundated with it in the media. I think maybe the Frenchman was trying to say that we still think that sex is dirty, or perhaps unnatural, at the same time titilated and fascinated by it.
