I'm confused, what difference would it make where Jews are on the planet when the End Of Days comes? I presume they'd be wiped out everywhere, not only in Israel. So why trick them into immigrating there?
I agree Sen. Lieberman is a nit-wit.
I disagree that Obama proves himself "a friend of Israel" by standing and supporting them even when their wrong. A good friend to me is someone who'd steer me away from self destructive behavior, in Israel's current case failing to halt settlement expansion in the West Bank.
In the end I believe this has little to do with friendship, and more to do with Imperialist Geo-politics. Kosovo and South Sudan are two recent examples of the West moving rapidly to support their Statehood, at the cost, of course, of our perceived enemies, Sudan and Yugoslavia. Longer and perhaps more legitimate struggles, such as the Kurds, Palestinians, and others, are indefinitely put on the back burner.
Let's face it, we, the West, will only come to bat for a people when they serve a function of empire. Israel, our regional, surrogate "Ulster Brigade" in the Middle East, serves that function. Oh, and their lobbyists have the U.S. political system by the balls. Friendship? I don't think so.
