Lawrence O'Donnel Kicks ass on this video. Basically dares the Mayor and Police department to do something. Maybe we're starting to win here. h/t to Evergreen2 in the comments.

5. Lawrence O'Donnell on NYPD actions on Wall Street Protestors

Saw this last night on his show--compelling viewing!!!! Mr. O'Donnell pointed out that it was a mostly a few superior officers in white shirts who initiated the violence, especailly pepper spraying the young women. Sadly, protestors kept asking "what are we doing wrong"? An investigation should be demanded by Mayor Bloomberg and results made public.

10. I was pleasantly shocked as well
I'd been calling the main stream newz media's "tip lines" for over a week, so
this came as a big rush of adrenalin for me. Made me smile real big ;-)

Too damned much "strong-arm" directive from on high. You KNOW this comes down from Bloomberg's office. He's got accomplices in those banks to defend. :grr:

9. I agree, Plucketeer this came from up top, the preponderance of white shirted police abuse
is a clue and the amazingly quick rush to pronounce the police actions as "appropriate," being another.

I have no doubt this abusive police behavior was instigated from the top down.

11. Of course. The second richest man in NYC,
Behind only one of the Koch brothers, isn't going to allow HIS police department to let those protesters stay there much longer.

Wall Street is too important to our autocratic mayor and his wealthy friends. Mere citizens aren't important at all. It's not hard to predict that police brutality is inevitable.

The police have a well-deserved reputation for brutality even when they aren't serving as personal enforcers for the mayor and his cronies. This just assures them more than the usual amount of immunity.

12. If it were junior officers behaving like this the NYPD could possibly ....
... make a claim of one or two officers using a little too much force, beyong their authority. The fact that this was senior officers in white shirts illustrates that this is EXACTLY the kind of behaviour and response that has been authorised from police command. This is not a once off behaviourial abberation - this is the culture of modern policing for the corporate state, and those senior officers are setting the example that it is expected junior officers will emulate.

White shirts are the new "Brown shirts" of the SA, Nazi Germany. It's just modern fascism.

34. I agree. In order to put down violence, in some cases you must first create it.
I suspect that the NYPD is doing whatever it can do to create a situation that allows them to do so.

16. And stupidly, the cops think this sort of behavior . . .
Is a better way to resolve such protests than by applying patience and judgement. When any sensible person knows that they've just spent every ounce of credibility they had, and their relationships with the citizens will be fractious for months to come.

And New York has another huge black eye.

Sympathy over 9/11? Fuck off until you get rid of your rogue cops and your rogue pols.

21. my favorite part
is when he points out that shock (not the anger mind you!) to the rodney king police brutality came from a position of middle class white privilege. similarly, this footage is not going 'shock' or enrage people who consider protesters getting abused by cops routine (which it sort of has become at this point). we need to change the script. videos of cops abusing and pepper spraying 'honest & respectable' people in suits would really shock the shit out of the apathetic middle class.

I wonder whether the attempted prevention by police of the videotaping of their use of excessive force might be considered obstruction of justice or, if a trial is held, suppression of evidence.

27. Not sure how he got that around the MSNBC censors
But then again he has said he doesn't need the job. So he's full willing to risk it. Embarrassed the fuck out of Brian Williams who had just hours before said it was the protesters fault for going outside the barricades Went to watch him yesterday to see if he'd say anything. Nope. Bye bye Brian. Rachel hadn't anything on that particular day. Wish he had a podcast. Think after Keith was fired I pretty much gave up hope on that channel and I end up turning it on for the heck of it with mom around and my jaw fell off my face and bounced out the door. Took alot of guts to do that. Happened in St Paul in 2008. It would seem in 2004 since the pepper spray idiot is involved in that. Don't support Anonymous really but yeah by all means expedite the guys info. They aren't threatening him with anything. Bout the only thing they've done right.

30. It seems if you are a teabagger, you can spit on elected officials
bring guns to presidential rallies and act like jack booted thugs and beat up girls. But if you are a peaceful liberal protester you get beaten, tazzered or sprayed with mace.

There is something seriously wrong with this picture.

36. Nice Outrage, but...
Not to knock Mr O'Donnel specifically, but he makes an important point: this will "go away" because the media will continue to ignore it. Which leads to the question, Mr O'Donnel: do you plan to keep after this story yourself, or just ignore it now that you've vented your spleen?

We need to know how many communities have such a committee, which ones are effective, how can we all demand an effective reviewing committee to provide oversight. We all need to know the laws about videotaping law enforcement.

is to bring down Bloomberg and Kelly --

Certainly no one would accuse either of them of not being attentive enough to

what Banksters/Wall St. needs!!

And, of course, same thinking holds re Obama and Dems -- if they're not creating

the change we need, they should go --
