2. This is one of the many reasons why Roger Waters is my favorite rock star
I only wish the rest of the 1% followed his example and recognized the importance of everyone being able to live a decent life. Waters may be rich, but he is not greedy and that is very admirable.

5. He may be an ass at times
But Roger has one of the strongest consciences in Rock and Roll. With all due respect to Gilmour, Floyd is nothing without Waters. And this comes from someone who wishes Syd Barrett did not implode, and went on to the glory he would have gotten, kicking the arse of those who got rich ripping him off.

10. I think
most people are beginning to realize that they are not being governed democratically but ruled financially for the benefit of less than 1% of the population. The problem is that at least 30% of us think that's just fine and about 50% will continue voting to perpetuate it.

30. It's more than 30%, sad to say
There are 2 groups- the people who are happy being told what to do if it keeps them safe(it doesn't) and gives them moral sanction to be assholes. Those are mostly republicans.

The other group are the people who are scared. Where will this all end? Lots of people even here fear the future. They would rather go back to the past, when things were "better" than risk doing something different, even if it could lead to a better world.

Ironic, isn't it? Greed and fear destroying our world. Our darkest emotions given form.

of the masses against greed and selfishness, the ever growing mass of have-not's vs the ever shrinking few of have's, the Us and Them divide...

Me thinks the growing OWS movement has a little relation with this:
Roger Waters' Stadium Tour to Kick Off May 1st 'The Wall' will also hit arenas across North America next year

17. I have had a love-hate thing with Roger
He could be such an asshole, and he has admitted it. At his show I attended last year, and throughout the tour, he's been telling audiences he could be pretty much a shit in his younger days. I appreciated his saying that, and of course I was grateful he toured the Wall. He is genius.

By the way, I sat side stage, and he faced our side quite a bit. I was very close, and when Roger did "Bring the Boys Back Home" everyone was seated in my section, no doubt anticipating the fantastic Comfortably Numb coming up next. I stood during "Back Home" and throughout the song held high a peace sign. Roger saw, pointed, and shot the peace sign back to me. A great moment for me. That album was released when I was 18, and it really spoke to me. A great experience.

Stop Dave
I'm afraid
I'm afraid

I can feel it
I can feel it
My mind is going
There is no question about it
I can feel it
I can feel it
I can feel it
I'm afraid

The monkey sat on a pile of stone
And he stared at the broken bone in his hand
Strains of a Viennese quartet rang out across the land
The monkey looked up at the stars
And he thought to himself
Memory is a stranger
History is for fools
And he cleaned his hands in a pool of holy writing
Turned his back on the garden and set out for the nearest town
Hold on hold on soldier

When you add it all up
The tears and the marrowbone
There's an ounce of gold
And an ounce of pride in each ledger
And the Germans kill the Jews
And the Jews kill the Arabs
And the Arabs kill the hostages
And that is the news
And is it any wonder that the monkey's confused
He said Mama Mama, the President's a fool
Why do I have to keep reading these technical manuals
And the joint chiefs of staff
And the brokers on Wall Street said
Don't make us laugh, you're a smart kid
Time is linear
Memory's a stranger
History is for fools
Man is a tool in the hands
Of the great God Almighty
And they gave him command of a nuclear submarine
Sent him back in search of the Garden of Eden

Not only did they know what they were selling was shit....but they bet against their investors....to make more money.

And, some of their customers were pension funds....including state pension funds.

The NJ state pension system lost 23 Billion in bad investments.
http://www.nj.com/news/index.ssf/2008/11/pension_funds_lost_9b_in_octob.html

And, now they want to blame the teachers, cops, fire fighters and public workers. They didn't cause this mess.

They robbed all of us...either directly or indirectly. And, I expect there will be more if it, especially in NJ where they have decided to up the amount of pension funds they invest in risky investments.

31. He says the part about betting against it at 1:20 or so
When he comments about the "lovely investment."

He could have mentioned the second part, but I've been telling people for years that the Wall St. people need sheep to shear for them to make enormous profits. Most people assured me that I was out of my mind.

Well, I guess it took something this large and blatant for the excuses to run out. Arguing that it's a fair world doesn't make it so.

It is no surprise that Bush's cousin George Walker or brother Jeb were at Lehman when they were misrepresenting their financial status.

They are under every rock.

Neil and the Savings and Loan scandal and the Lehman scandal that is never ending. Funny, how the states that made bad Lehman investments are the same ones after public workers....Florida, Ohio, Wisconsin & NJ.

And they separate Lehman's Neuberger Berman...and Bain Captial (Romney's company) purchases it. Of course, they didn't take that in bankruptcy court, and the state's lose out.

39. I always wondered why people think that when the
rich get rich it's no skin off their teeth (so to speak)or the way you phrased it, that they need to shear someone. Where do they thing the money comes from? The ether? It comes from other people. For years they just shifted the money around between them. But that was limiting, so they started thinking up ways to get our money other than through sales of product. They created fees and non-intrinsic product. Thus shearing us.

41. Magical thinking
In the 80s, the idea was that everyone was getting richer, so who cares that the people up top had more?

The problem was that there were actually a lot more poor people, or people working more jobs. That's invisible to people who are doing well, even now.

In a very real sense, people don't know where the money comes from...it's really kind of discouraging that people when they see massive profits don't see that it came from paying people less or stealing something.

Denver in May and Nashville in June where I'll be backstage as the band I tour with is rehearsing for their tour nearby...

Last year I went with my best friend from childhood. We have seen all of Rog's solo tours together. Each show better than the last.

Now that I got one with him out of the way I'm taking my oldest son and my nephew this time.

29. "Money" should be the song for occupation
It needs to be arranged for group A Capella with verbal sound effects for the cash register noises. Maybe a Kazoo or real sax for the solo and clapping at the fantastic tempo change in the middle that leads to David Gilmour's solo.
Then turn it into a group sing, fantastic relevant lyrics poking fun at the 1%.

Money

Money, get away
Get a good job with more pay and you're okay
Money, it's a gas
Grab that cash with both hands and make a stash
New car, caviar, four star daydream,
Think I'll buy me a football team

Money get back
I'm alright Jack keep your hands off my stack.
Money it's a hit
Don't give me that do goody good bullshit
I'm in the hi-fidelity first class travelling set
And I think I need a Lear jet

Money it's a crime
Share it fairly but don't take a slice of my pie
Money so they say
Is the root of all evil today
But if you ask for a raise it's no surprise that they're
giving none away

And, if he had the kind of sucky management most Sixties and Seventies musicians had, Roger probably didn't make that much.

Were you one of the people who gave John Lennon shit for writing "Imagine no possessions"?

This beats hell out of all of Bono's hypocritical sucking up to the megawealthy, little of which has ever helped the poor at all.

What we need for people like Roger to do is to be part of the solution.

It's not like I'm defending Madonna or the Stones or Metallica here.
