NATO may have ended its operations in Libya, but the Western presence is far from over - with big companies replacing the warplanes. The countries that bombed the oil-rich country are now getting lucrative contracts to rebuild it. RT's Laura Smith adds up the profits of war.

1. RT - no facts, all hype.

The oil companies ARE already in Libya - they signed contracts with Gaddafi. There is a map that I have to find, that shows the allocation of oil fields to foreign countries before the war.

The rest is all speculation.

I have read that Libya wants to give construction contracts to Tunisia and Egypt, but I would not say that was hard fact until the contracts were signed.

I have also read that there are a large number of Libyan volunteers to work on the oil fields, and it is no longer necessary to import labor.

3. Instead of the bulk of the oil money going to Gaddafi

it is now going to the Libyans.

The current NTC have stated that they will not stand for election when elections are held.

Which means anything they say now (if they even said it) means nothing.

That is why they have stated over and over again, for months and months, that existing contracts are to be honored.

The crap about promising Britain $300 B worth of contracts is utter BS, because they do not have the "standing" to make such promises.

If the West wants to plunge Libya into chaos, then they just have to withold the money. Assuming a Bernard Lewis/Ralph Peters style plan like in Iraq is the goal. Let's see how this plays out.

New Libyan PM seeks cash, reassures fighters

TRIPOLI Nov 9 (Reuters) - Libya's incoming prime minister Abdurrahim El-Keib was forced on Wednesday to pacify an angry crowd of armed fighters demanding jobs and back-pay, and urged his Western allies to unblock frozen funds so his government can pay its way.

TRIPOLI (Reuters) - Libya's acute cash crisis is set to get worse and its banking system requires a complete overhaul that will be guided by the International Monetary Fund and World Bank, the central bank's recently appointed governor said.

Saddek Omar Elkaber told Reuters in an interview that just $1.5 billion out of around $170 billion of Libyan assets abroad had been unfrozen, and with the first delivery of the war-torn country's new banknotes still nearly two months away, the liquidity crisis was far from over.

"The first shipment will arrive at the end of December... We are going to have to manage the liquidity problem until then," Elkaber said earlier this week.

4. Oh, and BTW

I have heard that there was enormous corruption with the oil contracts under Gaddafi.

An ordinary Libyan familiar with this said that a couple of US and UK companies did deals under the table, and Gaddafi-favored families in Libya profited from these underhand deals.

There are always two sides to a story, and RT is predicated on showing the West in the worst light, based mostly on falsehoods. Russia was the biggest supplier of weapons to Gaddafi, and they have lost big time because of this war.
