On Nov. 17th 2011 roughly 200 people packed the Senate Budget Committee room and hallway to hear Sens. Bernie Sanders, Barbara A. Mikulski, Ben Cardin and Rosa DeLauro urge the super committee to protect Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.

With a powerful congressional committee facing a Thanksgiving deadline for a deficit reduction plan, Sen. Bernie Sanders on Thursday hosted a rally of some 200 senior citizens and others opposed to potential cuts to Social Security, Medicaid and Medicare. Virginia Humphreys, 73, of Worcester, Vt., attended the event on Capitol Hill and spoke about what Social Security and Medicare have meant to her.
