5. Stay on target. This is about a bunch of kids sitting down and being sprayed like bugs
for peacefully protesting.

26. I had actually recc'ed this thread and think it's important.
But I also agree with the person above and found the icanhascheezburger allusion to be distracting from the original content. I'd say that sent it off target well before we noted it. It's a bit jarring to go from peaceful protesters meeting violence to an over-done internet meme.

43. And you two ganging up on the OP for something he/she probably didn't give a second thought to

isn't a distraction? This reminds me of a Seinfeld episode with Seinfeld and George getting anal retentive about some insignificant obscure thing that 99% of the public doesn't even notice.

Once the chant changed from the impotent, laughable, and habitually ignored, "Shame, shame, shame", things changed REAL fucking quick.

Incredible.

THANK YOU UC Davis!!!!!!!

I would have titled it appropriately!

BEAUTIFUL. This is what I mean when I talk about us changing the world solely through the will of the people. Enough of us saying NO! is a physical force, and there are many times more of us than them.

arresting those blocking the drive. Not a victory to my viewing. IF all the people busy taking video and pix (with iPads no less!) had sat down, overwhelming the police ability to arrest them all...THAT would have been better.

But thanks for posting. The kids were sprayed like bugs. Hope that cop -at least- gets disciplined.

12. I don't know. They were backing up in a classic group maneuver,
a closed group with no section exposed, facing outward with weapons, and they looked rather tense to me.

Hopefully this is the case :)

10. That was an incredible ending.
The cool part wasn't them fleeing. They were being backed out through most of the video. The cool part was they were allowed to leave.

It's the same thing when the protesters helped the journalist from the daily caller ( http://dailycaller.com/2011/11/17/daily-caller-reporter-videographer-assaulted-by-nypd-during-occupy-protests/ There is probably a thread on this but I didn't see it.)

There is an overpowering WTF moment in events like this in the cops or right-biased reporters, or whoever that these people's heads--at least some of them. There is no way all those cops were cool with the use of pepper spray. That was not only uncalled-for, it was excessive. To be first overwhelmed and then allowed to leave was amazing. I hope they got the name of the sprayer; that guy needs to have charges filed and his badge and gun put in a safe someplace--Fort Knox, KY, perhaps.

This is a must-see from beginning to end; it's the stuff movements are made of.

He's the one in the rear as they leave, & he gives the signal to leave at the end.

28. About 6:15 into the video someone calls for a Mic Check...
and in the middle of the confusion a guy says:

We are willing
to give you a brief moment
of peace
and you can take your weapons
and your friend (the guy that used the mace)
and go.
Please do not return.
We're giving you a moment of peace
take this moment of peace and go.
We will not follow you.
You may go! (crowd chants)
You may go!
You may go!...

The police huddle around the guy and slowly back up to the point where they can turn and leave.

it was truly fucking awesome!

7. College students are smart.
They did two clever things in this video..

1) The quickly changed their chant from "Shame, Shame, Shame", realizing that these police have no sense of shame.
2) They tried to bring them on board. The cops may be stupid, which is why they are cops. If they spent some time in a college earlier, maybe they would not be there as paid shills today. Perhaps they can show the cops that they are protesting to save the pensions of the cops.

The cops are obviously in the 99%, but have you seen even one story of a police officer resigning in protest of what they are being asked to do?

11. That was POWERFUL
I had waves of chills throughout the whole video.

Solidarity with those who are peacefully protesting and standing together while they are being assaulted by those who should be protecting them.

Shame on them, and i hope those police have a very difficult time looking at themselves in the mirror. Spraying those students for SITTING?

Are we really in America? I'm beginning to wonder.

Shine ON,
Annette

http://bicyclebarricade.wordpress.com/2011/11/19/open-letter-to-chancellor-linda-p-b-katehi/

I call for your resignation because you are unfit to do your job. You are unfit to ensure the safety of students at UC Davis. In fact: you are the primary threat to the safety of students at UC Davis. As such, I call upon you to resign immediately.

Sincerely,

the only thing we can do is to defend ourselves and others from the fascists

he presented the pepper spray like a bottle of fine wine, then sprayed non violent people, on film, which means he has orders to do what he did and is not scared about anything coming back to him.
