Slavery is illegal in every country, but some have allowed slave-like conditions in certain situations.

In China, slavery in prisons is still alive and thriving, to provide cheap goods for major companies and corporations.

Al Jazeera's Rageh Omar reports.

- It would seem that China is trying to follow America's inglorious rise to greatness. They've even improved the process by eliminating the importation of slaves and the stifling of dissent in one fell swoop.......

1. The hypocrisy of Repukes is remarkable. They love trade with China, and it's a Communist nation
But they seem to have NO problem with that, do they?

2. Not as long as.....
...the ''campaign contributions'' keep flowing. It's not about the red, the white, or the blue.

- It's about the green......

It's taking place right now.

3. You're right, but OWS is going to hold them accountable now.
Of course, they pretend they don't know what OWS stands for. duh.

8. I love that - debt is the slavery of the free. They get the 99% one way or another. Well...
I'm willing to get them right back. :)

5. I think that China is the new corporate global model.
There is a great article by Naomi Klien in an older Rolling Stone called Golden Shield about the massive surveillance being set up with the help of US companies in a southern city in China. Truly chilling.

They have moved very quickly into a 1%-99% situation too, though it may be more of a 0.1% - 99.90% with their population size.

Wealthy Chinese now travel to London just to shop and are now the number one shoppers at Harrods. The rich in China are quite happy to throw the whole country under the bus too.

It is brilliant letting a small part of the population have a lot of money instead of just the party elite as it makes the rich into targets of hatred, taking heat off the party, and ensures their future cooperation with anything the state wants to do.

7. I assume American jails are better.
More people are in prison in America than anywhere else on the planet. Big business.
