The United States regards Pakistan as a 'free-fire zone' in which it can violate the country's sovereignty at will. The killing of at least 24 Pakistani soldiers by a US air strike on 25 November 2011, is just the latest in almost daily attacks.

John Rees from Stop the War Coalition says there is only one solution to the instability in the region: the US and its NATO allies must get out of Afghanistan now. The ten year occupation has failed. It has not stabilised the country, it's killed thousands of Afghan civilians, it has not achieved any of the aims we were told it would.

Without routes through Pakistan, the U.S. will not be able to sustain military efforts in Afghanistan.
