1. This is highly
relevant.

When you inspect neo-liberalism, (nothing to do with what we think of as liberal) and see just how prevalent and dominant its policies are, and then add the increasingly complex and growing technologies utilized to condition, control, track and tabulate the population, the kind of future you can extrapolate is unsettling.

While technology is being sold as "empowering" and somehow capable of "enriching" our lives, it appears that, for the bulk of us, when you are in a market-based, profit-driven neo-liberal world, the power and wealth implied go to the controllers of the technology. The gadgets become more of a leash for us as "human resources" only exist in the ideology as expendable parts of the machine that serve those who are entitled by their self-assessed superiority to have access to a larger part of the benefits and resources produced.

We are facing a crux where there are some large egos planning to move forward in full control of the continuing technological revolution regardless of how many of us are left in squander and rutting in their dust. The techno-Utopians are full-steam ahead and declaring the wonders and glories of their proliferating high-technology as a successful evolution while ignoring the facts that are more obvious to many of us in the fields and trenches of the free market holocaust and neo-liberal pestilence in our midst.

Far too many humans not only do not have access to the technological magic bag, and are either abandoned or exploited like automatons to make the amazing gadgets for the penthouse wizards that are trying to seal our fates in their futuristic fantasy. Many of us look around and see the horrors of our worlds collapsing, (personally and collectively) while the results of our impact on the planet, (due to neo-liberal requirements for infinite everything) and other species and even our climate tell us that these supposedly intelligent and well-educated framers of the future have not even figured out how to get their heads out of their asses, let alone decide what's best for us unwashed masses.

We are humans, first and foremost. We are life. Life is sacred and, until there is some form of respect, sharing and a sense of connectedness, no amount of economic hocus-pocus and techno-wonder will quiet our voices and demands. There is much suffering right now, no matter how much compassion our current vanguards of abundance fail to have. In fact, they are appearing to be bankrupt concerning most important traits that make humanity noble. There is more to wealth than money and much more to life than profit.

3. On the road to Despotism...
http://youtu.be/1plSSL2v1_U

(on a side note: I found it interesting in the cut video it shows a person cutting out a coupon. Between the rich and poor...which group cuts more coupons? Exactly, the poor, the peons are the ones that cut coupons while the rich spend with abandon. It is like we are in medieval Europe.)

4. Thanks for that, having trouble posting again. Check this out:
Below is a recent thread that takes a while to get to the concept, but it reminds me of what your'e saying here. 'Depotism,' oh. yeah.

We're also well into 'Nepotism' now as the first thing that the Teahadists did was give their friends and family state jobs they weren't qualified for at great pay. This was outlawed almost a century ago, but it was forgotten. The OP video explains why, since Americans, including Democrats, have bought into the politics is dirty and beneath my attention. Part of it is. But if we cede the public square to the corporatists, things will be a lot dirtier.

Here's that mind twisting thead:

The Great Money Trick (public domain)

To that I add these quotes that show what the OWS movement is addressing, because there are fundamental issues about how we are to survive on this planet under this system:

In reality libertarianism as an impartial ideal of maximum freedom and justice seems to be a kind of fantasy. We are all born into a world in which property is neither evenly distributed nor freely available. This situation came about through history, in which piracy, imperialism, genocide, slavery, etc. have all had an important part. No individual is free just to live their own life, since (for instance) there is no free land to farm. We all depend on others (especially if we are poor or handicapped by low social status, low intelligence, unpopular ethnicity, or disability, etc.) A government that adopts a completely laissez faire approach effectively sides with the pirates, slave-owners, etc. and their descendants. -- Duncan Richter

LAND, n. A part of the earth's surface, considered as property. The theory that land is property subject to private ownership and control is the foundation of modern society, and is eminently worthy of the superstructure. Carried to its logical conclusion, it means that some have the right to prevent others from living; for the right to own implies the right exclusively to occupy; and in fact laws of trespass are enacted wherever property in land is recognized. It follows that if the whole area of _terra firma_ is owned by A, B and C, there will be no place for D, E, F and G to be born, or, born as trespassers, to exist. - from Ambrose Bierce's 'The Devil's Dictionary'

The words of Scott Olsen echo that in the interview he gave a short time ago: 'the right to exist.' It's in clearly in question now when all this power is being accumulated. Still, it's a beautiful world. Let's try to focus on that, too, to bring it to pass. We are the ones who can bring this about, but we have to be aware to clean things up. Another good place to look for encouragement are the words of David Korten on youtube and the online magazine, Yes.
