When you're at the end of the road, food stamps are the only thing left. Most people don't qualify for welfare, the unemployment extensions for 99ers are gone, and there are no jobs to be had. Many people will read this and shake their heads at what this desperate mother did. I look at it and think of all the politicians who didn't lift a finger to help people like this:

(Reuters) - A woman in the border city of Laredo, Texas who was angry because she had been denied food stamps killed herself and shot and critically wounded her two children late on Monday, authorities said on Tuesday.

The 38-year-old woman entered the Texas Health and Human Services Commission office in downtown Laredo on Monday afternoon and demanded to speak to a supervisor, said investigator Joe Baeza of the Laredo Police Department.

The woman, whom he declined to identify, pulled out a handgun and started walking through the office, threatening several employees, he said.

Rachelle had come to Laredo to escape from her husband, who wanted to take custody of the children. She lived in a modest mobile home Town North, near the street International.

The neighbors described her as a reserved but friendly woman and very intelligent as she home schooled her children.

She had no job and received a $400 monthly check to take care of her children and pay the rent but it wasn’t enough. She ate cactus and fruits and received donations from her neighbors to survive.

2. and yet in Seattle, 1%'s collecting food stamps, medicare, 1000$ plus housing subsidy

This woman shoots herself because she can't get help for herself and her children; Meanwhile a wealthy family in Seattle has received over one hundred thousand (that's right $145Kplus) in government money and food stamps.

Federal agents have raided a Seattle couple’s $1.2 million lakefront home looking for evidence that they’ve bilked the government for more than a decade.

Filing a civil lawsuit Friday, federal prosecutors in Seattle claim Lyudmila Shimonova and her partner, chiropractor David Silverstein, sucked money out of state and federal assistance programs while living well in a Lake Washington mansion.

Both have been accused of welfare fraud, allegedly making false claims for government assistance. Neither has been charged criminally.

All told, authorities claim the couple received $135,000 in federal housing assistance benefits, as well as additional support through a federal program for destitute disabled Americans and state programs meant to feed families.
