1. People who want a purebred of any kind,

should absolutely visit the breeder.

Another issue is that many people get fixated on wanting some particular breed, without understanding the needs of that breed.

Personally, I don't get the obsession for a specific breed, and I know that animals from a shelter are generally wonderful. The shelters usually temperment test, and generally won't put up for adoption any animal not suitable.

3. There are many, many purebred dogs (and cats) in shelters and rescure organizations now

People looking for a purebred should visit petfinder.org. One can actually pick by breed and there are LOTS of them.

2. There is a local breeder

of Bengal cats that is dumping cull kittens in neighborhoods. Not making me think well of breeders.

These guys just dump kittens and run. Trying to make a buck on cat reproduction is nasty business.
