I cannot recommend this highly enough! My lovely wife and I watched it live last night. I laughed, I cried... and I have read every single word of every single transcript of the entire trial (much of the testimony reenacted here many times) -- but there is nothing like seeing the absurdity of it all brought to life.
And, as pointed out by Rob Reiner, if the Prop H8 proponents hadn't fought to keep the trial videos sealed, the real thing would have had a much smaller audience (say, on C-SPAN) -- but this way, millions of people around the world get to see what the Prop H8ers wanted to hide from the public. Talk about a "blessing" in disguise!
All the actors are terrific, especially Lahti and Curtis (great chemistry!), Sheen, and Chris Colfer. The exchanges between Clooney and Reilly, and between Pitt and Bacon, are laugh-out-loud funny, and the all-too-brief moment with George Takei is a standout (especially if you're familiar with the
idiotic blathering of Hak-Shing Tam). Finally, Jane Lynch deserves some sort of award for capturing the, uh,
essence of that gasbag Maggie Gallagher (brilliant casting, that).
It was also gratifying to see a number of people I didn't know were such strong allies that they would participate (e.g., Campbell Brown, Yeardley Smith).
A must-must see. (Make sure to watch through to the very end to see who's in the audience.) Enjoy!
