Both Mr. Gore's speech and Nobel lecture were soul inspiring and a clarion call to this nation that we must do much more in order to work to save this planet for those to come. He clearly showed that he has reached that higher consciousness and was absolutely where he should have been at that moment... accepting a prestigious honor he has worked very hard to attain at a time when his global leadership is so much needed. How so very proud I am of him and happy to see him get the recognition he deserves. Now, we can only hope that those with the power to decide the world's fate have listened to both him and Mr. Pachauri whose words were stark and truthful. This is humanity's time to act, and as Mr. Gore stated that is a we equation.

1. Mr. Gore's Nobel Lecture can be viewed at the Nobel site:

After viewing this speech I was overwhelmed with gratitude and in tears. The points he made regarding treaties needing to be made that will give all a chance to be entrepreneurs in the solutions were right on target. We cannot allow the same special interest mindset that controls our market now to get a foothold in this thus shutting out the vision and creativity that could solve this crisis. We must give all in our world rich and poor a chance to bring forth the solutions equitably. This can now not only be our chance to take on the defining challenge of our generation regarding our environment, but also a chance to finally open the pathways for opportunity to those who up to now have not had that chance. There are no more words I can find to express to Mr. Gore the gratitude, respect, and love I have had for him through all of these years. Mr. Gore, your parents saw that speech yesterday and they are so proud of you. Congratulations, and thank you from the bottom of my heart. I will do all in my power as I have been to act. Now we must get to work. My donation to the Alliance for Climate Protection will be going out this week.

3. For the first time in many years
I felt proud of an American. I only hope that his words do not fall on deaf ears here at home and around the world. THere is so much to do and so little time left. Thank you from the bottom of my heart President Gore.

5. Yes, and there are many deaf ears out here in this country...
That have yet to be reached. We have far to go and we must go quickly, as he also quoted in his speech. I share your hope that we can.

2. Anyone interested in discussing this?

Does anyone have a view regarding Bali and the games that will now be played in order to skirt targets? As Mr. Gore mentioend in his Nobel speech, the U.S. and China which are the two biggest emitters can no longer play possum by using each other's non action as an excuse for their own. The U.S has already renegged on set targets in Bali, with China now looking as though they are moving closer towards something... it is obvious then that we may see a political showdown with China taking advantage of the U.S's isolated position already as the only industrialized nation to not ratify Kyoto as a chance to agree to some sort of limits to gain business and try to steal more of that market away from the U.S. The leadership of this country that is currently not leading is FOOLISH and morally bankrupt to the extreme to not care about the benefits of such caps and the jobs green technology can spur as well as economic opportunities to lift many out of poverty. It will be interesting to say the least to see how brinksmanship and political grandstanding will once again take precedence over the moral imperative, even at a time when that moral imperative is crucial to our survival. To think Bush and his neocons would continue to sell the human race down the river for what they believe is their own benefit is absolutely despicable.

8.  How come every other Gore thread here made it to the rec list?
But the actual Nobel ceremony can't so others can hear their words? It is obvious then that either some of us here who supported this man through all of this instead of being political cheerleaders are seen as pariahs now, or people really just don't care. So be it. You can keep your cliques while you continue to dissect everything he says containing the word "president" to continue to feed your illusions while ignoring the important words. No one could even discuss BALI in this thread? So what will we see here today? Just more pictures and cooing? And we are to believe this is a SERIOUS PROGRESSIVE website that cares about world issues?

11. And I thank you for that...
Yes, it was brilliant, and timely, and true, and needed...And I don't know if they carried it either as I don't watch them and also had to work, but I sincerely doubt it. I even wonder if some think he is doing all of this just to have something to do or to give them something to just talk about without "discussing" it... It IS serious and it IS real and we need to be moving on to discussing just what the hell we are going to do now.

10. I would perhaps get more involved in the primary if
even one of the candidates would have taken time to attend the Bali conference. Global Dimming, or Warming or Climate change (whatever you want to call it) IS THE MOST IMPORTANT ISSUE TO ME and HUMANITY! Yet how little have any of the candidates spoken about it? Where are the position papers, plans, thoughts, etc. I truly believe it doesn't matter who wins the GE as we will all lose mother earth. This nation is split down the middle on every major issue and no matter how hard WE try, nothing seems to change, but only gets worse. I have no confidence in the upcoming election once again, thanks to the way we cast our votes, the gems tabulators, etc.......if they rigged it before they will surely do it again. I feel more doomed then I ever have. At least I know that Al Gore is out there fighting for me, mine and the world, but Al Gore needs everyone to act and act quickly. It's hard to become a cheerleader for any candidate when I see no future for mankind.

12. Yes, that kind of thwarts politcal campaigns...
The fate of mankind, that is. It goes so far beyond all this BS. Thank you for the conversation. Good to hear from others who care.
