On Wednesday, we celebrated National Coming Out Day. HRC, in conjunction with PFLAG, released our first-ever Straight Guide to GLBT Americans. We also had great success with our Snapshot project, designed to encourage people to "Talk about it." Participants included rock star, Pink, celebrity blogger, Perez Hilton, and actors, George Takei and Laura Linney. (

And, we broke new ground with a video we released on YouTube. The video is a montage of prominent politicians, celebrities, GLBT activists and others talking about the value of coming out. After only a couple of days, the video is quickly approaching 100,000 hits and it has been ranked in YouTube's top ten most-watched videos! You can watch it by clicking here. This is an exciting and innovative way for us to get our message out. Once you've watched it, please forward the link to friends and family and ask them to check it out, too.
In the weeks ahead, we have much more work to do and much to look forward to. In less than two weeks, we expect the New Jersey Supreme Court to hand down its decision on marriage equality. We will be monitoring developments carefully. The New Jersey court has historically been one of the more favorable ones in supporting GLBT equality.
Meanwhile, a large portion of our staff will soon be scattered in races all over the country. We have 25 days left until the election and we will be focused like a laser on electing as many fair-minded candidates as we can. If you'd like to help, I encourage you to join our "4 Days 4 Equality" project. Those last four days of campaigning are crucial. We are working to place volunteers in targeted races all over the country. Contact our office if you'd like to participate. And, be sure, before you vote, to check out our Congressional Scorecard to see how your Members of Congress and Senators ranked on GLBT equality. The scorecard is available here.
Have a great weekend!
Warmly.
