Monk was difficult to watch tonight |
|
My son with Asperger's usually loves Monk but tonight he walked in just as Monk was saying "it all would have been bearable if I'd only had had one friend" I could see the hurt in my son's eyes because he hasn't had a friend in four years.
He went to bed early.

Monk is the only show we make a point of watching (my daughter, husband and I).
It was a problematic show - in that - in that it could reinforce in some people the sense of not being able to trust esp. friendly people.

2. We went through that with my older son |
|
When he was in 2nd grade a 3rd grader would tell him he was his friend and then stomp on his foot. He was totally confused. I did call the mother and she made her son apologize - and I actually believed the kid was sorry. That doesn't happen too often.
Both of my son's have had trouble with bullies and the youngest now assumes that the people are making fun of him because that's been his overwhelming experience. We're working on trying to change that but it's hard when there's a group of kids at school that keep doing it.

4. Oh I know that feeling... |
|
I have grown up with it and even to this day I don't trust making friends with people. I prefer to call the people I do associate with "acquaintances" but never friends. My trust has been broken so many times that it will take a long time to heal.

6. It's very hard and very lonely |
|
for them at times.
My son( HS Autism) has had one friend in his 22 years on our planet. He's alone most of the time.
His friend is incredibly patient with him, since my son does not often take the initiative to call him, plan things with him and such.I understand that's something he's working through.
A big hug to you and your son.
