I hate the start of school
my son is a junior this year and is taking 3 IB classes the first day isn't until the first but we've been experiencing full blown melt downs already. I'm sure he's stressing about going back to school and while he is academically capable of doing all the high level work for the IB courses I don't know if he can handle the added stress that goes with it. It means he can't finish all his work in school, which means home work, which means walking out of school at the end of the day is not the end of school for the day. I can feel my hair turning gray!!!!

His melt downs are beginning to scare me as he is now much taller than I am and out weighs me by more than I care to think about.

1. Talk with someone who can help
you.

This may be his doctor, a counselor, etc.
but please get someone who understands
your son.

You both are in my thoughts and prayers.

2. Right; sounds like goddess and her son need relief
of the sort that should be available.

4. We have good people to help us
Sadly, that doesn't mean all staff or students are on board. He has a great therapist, psychologist and several teachers and his guidance counselor.

You'd think it would help that I'm on the school board but it doesn't and I'm not one to push that issue like some past board members have done. I ran for the board to help all kids not just mine.

6. check out these support groups
I'm familiar with the first one - and also it's companion GT-Special-Home for homeschoolers. I found the second one just now when I was looking for the login information. I don't know anything about it, but if it's anything like the first one, you should find it helpful.

Asperger Syndrome/High Functioning Autism Support List

ASPERGER is a private discussion list for families of, and persons with, Asperger Syndrome, PDD, and other forms of high functioning autism.

Among topics of discussion are individuals' experiences, psychosocial issues, new research, educational approaches, parenting issues, and every-day coping strategies.

Also one thing to consider - is the added stress of the classes worth what he'll get from them?
