Poll question: Are things getting better, worse or staying the same?
What are you perceptions of how things are going at DU, in terms of the anti-Obama/Dem rhetoric?

Consider it now vs how it was in December.

1. IMO it is much better just for the change in attitude
The Bush era had an authoritarian mindset that infected government at all levels.

It was a dangerous path to be on. Reversing that is a good change all by itself.

2. I said slightly better. I think some folks are being a bit more tactful
than they used to be. The Mods are locking threads that advocate for third parties. Those threads were the logical result of anti-Dem rhetoric. I guess until that line was crossed, from being anti-Dem into actual third party advocacy, there was a huge gray area that was difficult to address definitively.

I think the Mods are giving us some leeway here so that we can vent our frustrations in this forum rather than on the general boards. And I thank them for that. It shows that they understand how difficult it has been for us over the last 6 months or so. Sometimes we cross a line here, too, and they haven't come down hard on us and I thank them for that, too. They just do what they have to do, lock a thread or delete a post.

now and have 200 or more on ignore and hide threads that I hear later get locked.

My own induced state of bliss. I don't come on to argue(although I do)..I want to be a supporter who gets things done for the Planet. Life's too short..I want to see accomplishments as opposed to going round and round in circles.

My New Year's Resolution, if you will.:)

But, I give those mods a tip o the hat and props for what they do to keep the board within the rules set out by the Admins..who I also thank for starting this board way back in the day.

5. Seems like some of the BS has died down a bit.
I guess the disruptors finally realized we were on to what they were trying to do and they decided to back off.
Also the health care bill will be passed and they know no amount of hate-spewing will make a difference now.

7. A few disruptors have been TSed and a couple of others have left of their own accord
So I think that has helped the situation.

6. I say slightly better. Jobs are opening up here in Cali, in my area
... sales are better for my husband; people are spending and buying again and this for the start of this new year.

Also, the President is just awesome!

9. I said slightly better. I only see a few anti-Obama threads
and they don't get alot of action. Seems disruptors have moved on to other sites and that's a good thing. Mods have picked up the pace on locking and deleting posts and threads, which is long overdue. I even donated again the other evening. Not much but we'll see how it goes.

14. Yeah, I'm still
getting emails from fdl which I thought I had cancelled..but, since it's here I will note that it's all about "a huge scandal brewing" on the Obama admin as she licks her ignorant chops and rubs her greedy hands together. With another petition to sign.

She's the one who wants the left to "March With The Teabaggers" like a bunch of imbeciles.

15. I think it is about the same
but then I am like a turtle in its shell, I mostly stay here and on the DU Lounge. Over the weekend I did venture out and had words with several of the worst posters, but nothing major. I may be on their ignore lists.

On the world perspective, I think things are better no matter how much the media tries to tell us it is not. The attitude has changed and although I sometimes get down from all the naysayers here and on the air, I feel better about the way this country is being lead.

16. A thought occurs ...

Do those of us answering "slightly better" (that's how I voted) have really well populated ignore lists at the moment?

I don't have a ton of people ignored, and generally just have one particular irritant on there, but I finally made a list of several people who are constantly negative about everything and ignored them the first time I saw one of their negative starter threads.

I realized this afternoon that it's since I did this I've felt things were slightly better.

19. I don't have anyone on ignore. I decided months ago that I needed to SEE
what kind of posts were on a site to which I donate. Just because I don't see posts doesn't mean they aren't there.

Another thing, how can we alert on disruptive posts if we don't SEE them? The alert function is the only way the Mods know something is happening that they need to address. We all know for a fact that people that post on the site which cannot be named do not have US on ignore.

20. True enough ...

... which is the reason I generally don't use the function.

There is one person who contributes absolutely nothing to this site except mind-crushing stupidity, has no coherent ideology I can define, and just plain gets on my nerves because she seems determined to let everyone know just how big of an idiot she is. After my last go-'round with her some months ago, I finally just ignored her entirely, and I've been happier for it. The mods probably are too because I think the majority of my deleted posts have been in response to something she has said or at least in some "discussion" that was a result of something she said.

Anyway ...

I occasionally ignore/un-ignore certain people when they're on a tear of some sort I just get tired of seeing. It's generally nothing that should be alerted and wouldn't be locked/deleted even if it was. Some people just go off on multi-thread rants on basically the same subject that I find obnoxious and which lessen my ability to see other things. I don't go through all threads, and I never will. Ignore often helps me separate chaff from, at least, more interesting chaff.

17. The uproar over the health care issue has died down.
It ought to be more civil here for awhile until some decide that President Obama screws over his base again over some other issue.
