Nation article from 1935, unemployment & WPA
I am so tired of hearing about the WPA. First of all, unemployment isn't near what it was then, regardless of any change in counting. Still, the WPA did not reduce unemployment significantly and most certainly didn't fix it altogether. I posted part of a National article from 1935, which not only debunks the WPA myth, but also puts FDR firmly against "this business of relief" and wishing to end it as quickly as possible.

1. Some folks are always going to be contrary. (I'm referring to
the responses you got to that article.)

Thanks for posting that article, though. The left can be as revisionist as the right sometimes.

2. People don't understand FDR ...

Perhaps this was naive of me, but I never understood how poorly people who call themselves Democrats understand FDR or anything he did during his administrations. It's really been evident lately.

The biggest shocker for me was discovering so many people parroting why the conservatives have been saying about him all these years, just without the condemnation for it. The Republican line on FDR seems to have stuck.

And then I see the parallel with what's happening with Obama. A lot of people on the left actually believed that nonsense about Obama being the most liberal person in the Senate, or at least wanted to believe it.

::sigh::

I need a cookie.
