How many times can a discussion board "Jump the Shark"??? (spending freeze)
Perhaps I missed something, but the drama surrounding this possible spending freeze does not make sense.

There is no spending freeze, there are no details.

No person can form a valid opinion.

One can only form an opinion of ignorance.

It's a good thing that the panic prone posters are not generally representative of progressives.

1. I don't consider myself "panic prone" but this spending freeze concerns me.
Yes, there is waste in government but considering that Congress has to agree on this and vote on it, what are the odds the conservadems will eliminate *real* waste instead of good programs?

3. The odds are not good that real waste will ever be addressed. Here in CA...
...we just run out the clock and then programs get starved out of "budgetary necessity", dropped altogether because the money isn't there.

No reason to think it would be any better at the federal level.

I just want to wait until I hear or read something solid before I blow a fuse.

6. I just added another one to my journal
It covers a CATO Institute report from 2004 that shows Bush increased Discretionary Nondefense spending by more than half a trillion dollars in his first 3 years.

Perhaps Obama wants to reduce wasteful spending created under Bush.

7. It won't matter to the knee-jerkers who fear any cuts mean an end to something useful.
The truth is that there's waste everywhere.

Having been with my parents though the Medicare system, for example, I conclude that this particular entitlement could run for half the current cost.

Not that cuts are the solution, but savings that could be had could be considered cuts, and some progressives would have a fit.

Do we all think that the defense budget should be drastically cut?

Hell yeah.

Can the president unilaterally do it.

Hell no.

I think it's in your GD thread that Bernie Sanders isn't even good enough.

LOL.

8. Even better ...

Now we're getting complaints about the "spending cuts" that Obama apparently "announced."

Huge headline full of hyperbolic conclusion-jumping. Unbelievable. Why do I even GO there?
