Why Howard Fineman's Kenyan Long Distance Runner remark is so wrong. |
|
Of course a lot of uptight folks were upset about a reference about the President's Kenyan (true) background and his perseverance (also true).
The problem wasn't the Kenyan part, of which the President is proud of and we shouldbn't be squeemish in embracing because there is nothing wrong with being a "Kenyan-American" as there is nothing wrong with being an "Irish-American".
The problem is that the President is not a long distance runner.
He is a team player. When they write the 'behind the scenes' story of this bill's passage it will include hundreds of hours of engaging the leaders and keeping them playing.
The President won this because he played it like a Kenyan-American Basketball player passing the ball for others to score and when a critical point is at stake took the ball and went to the basket and slammed the ball down.

Yeah, I saw nothing wrong about the Kenyan Long Distance Runner but I wasn't thinking of the "which sport is was" aspect.
He is such a Team Player and he has a great Team. SLAM DUNK.

2. Actually there can be a "team" aspect |

to distance running, much as in cycling.
Working together a couple runners can do several things such as running in single file to reduce wind on the runner behind or playing the roll of rabbit trying to force other runners to expend their energy too early.
