29. Uh-oh, someone just fainted - POTUS taking care of it like he always does.
I think people faint at these events because they are standing in advance for a long period of time. It brings to mind standing in the hot Texas sun years ago, awaiting my squadron's turn to march at our graduating parade (USAF), and our TI's screaming at us, DON'T LOCK YOUR KNEES!, DON'T LOCK YOUR KNEES! to keep us from fainting - so, if you're ever at an event where you have to stand for a long period of time - DON'T LOCK YOUR KNEES!

42. It makes me tired just looking at these all-day and all-night sessions.
And when I think that so many Democratic Congresspersons and Senators are well into their 70's and some even well into their 80's (Louis Slaughter, I believe, is 81) - they have my utter respect for these long, long, long hours they've been putting in.

I'm glad Obama also said plainly, "We couldn't get it through Congress." No matter how lovely the plan looks - how do you get those like Blanche Lincoln and Evan Bayh to vote for it, who even in this recent marathon amendment session voted WITH Republicans on some amendments, even in the midst of all the viciousness Republicans are directing at Democrats.

If this process has forced me to do anything, it's to "grow up" politically and bring myself to understand the nature of political reality.

51. And visit to bookstore, so cute
Along his way he picked up “No Apology” by Mitt Romney and “Courage and Consequence” by Karl Rove. “What do you think guys?” he asked the pool, holding up a hardback copy of each in his hands before setting them back down.

A few minutes later POTUS stepped up to the cash register with two books in his hands: “Journey to the River Sea” by Eva Ibbotson and “The Secret of Zoom” by Lynne Jonell for his daughters, which he said had come highly recommended. He also bought a book for Robert Gibbs, who was holding a large Star Wars pop-up book for his six-year-old son, Ethan.

“It’s a little expensive, sir,” Gibbs said to his boss as he handed it over.

POTUS showed the book to pool as the cashier rang it up for $37.44.

“I can handle it,” Obama said as Gibbs suggested he pay. “It’s for keeping his dad away for too many hours a day.”

Pres. Obama on Health Care at the University of Iowa
Referring back to a campaign speech made in Iowa City, Pres. Obama recalled his promise to sign a health insurance reform bill during remarks at the University of Iowa. In his speech, the President disagreed that the bill was a government takeover, saying instead, that it built on the current system. 47 min
