Watching this ceremony take place over the weekend, I found myself not only moved, but thinking of how the pride of each of these servicemembers in becoming an American citizen might serve to ripple out in ways large and small to their countries of origin in coming years.
It was a perfect spring day for the ceremony, which is brief, but just wonderful. Although I was foaming at the mouth during the Bush years over what he and the GOP had made of being an American, this ceremony certainly put me in touch with feeling good about being an American. (And as former military myself, may I also add that Obama gives the BEST, SHARPEST textbook military salute of ANY CiC I've seen in my lifetime. It's not the first time I've said it, but that really means a lot -- that he actually took the time and interest to learn how to properly salute!)
