Another potential Supreme Court nominee – Judge Diane P. Wood of the federal appeals court in Chicago – was interviewed Tuesday at the White House by President Obama and Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr.
The interview brings to four the number of potential candidates Mr. Obama and Mr. Biden have interviewed in person. The others are Judge Sidney Thomas of the federal appeals court in Montana, Judge Merrick Garland of the federal appeals court in Washington D.C. and Elena Kagan, the solicitor general.
The White House would not comment on the interview, but a person familiar with the conversation confirmed that it took place. Judge Wood, who still teaches law as a senior lecturer at the University of Chicago, canceled her classes on Tuesday without explanation.
Judge Wood is considered to be the candidate who would provoke the greatest backlash from conservatives, in large part because of her rulings in abortion cases and her writings on other hot-button issues, including immigration. Conservative advocacy groups have warned that they would regard a Wood nomination as a provocation, which may be one reason the White House sought to keep Tuesday’s session secret.
Mr. Obama is expected to name his pick to replace Associate Justice John Paul Stevens sometime within the next week or so; White House officials would not rule out the possibility of additional in-person interviews, although the four who have met with Mr. Obama are regarded as the leading candidates for the job.

I would love to see Obama give the finger to "conservative groups," and nominate the hell out of Judge Wood!
